The St. Kilian Saints and the LI Cyclones faced off for the second time this spring. The Cyclones took a 7-0 lead after three innings and led 10-3 heading into the bottom of the seventh inning. The Saints would score four runs in the bottom of the seventh and a third in the bottom of the eighth to tie the game at 10. With one out and the score still tied Jonathan Smalkin came to the plate in the bottom of the ninth inning. Jonathan hit a line drive that found the hole between shortstop and third base for a base hit. Jonathan would steal second and on a daring attempt stole third base. With the count 2-2 the Cyclones pitcher threw a wild pitch, Jonathan broke for the plate and slid under the tag for the game winning and first place clinching run. The win clinched 1st place for the Saints in the 2009 NCT Spring season.
Final Score: Saints 11, Cyclones 10. Other Saint notables: PJ Spadalik with three hits, three runs scored, three stolen bases and three-and-on-third solid pitching to keep the Saints in the game. Keith Albert two shutout innings on the mound to earn the win, Nico Rivera two hits, one RBI and some solid defense, Nick Panza clutch run scoring double and two solid innings on the mound.
