Art in the Park Event Seeks Local Artists
The Women’s Club of Farmingdale is sponsoring the Second Annual Art Show and Sale on Sept. 12 (rain date Sept. 13) on the Village Green in Farmingdale. Artists are invited to bring their paintings, drawings, photographs and sculptures to show. Ribbons will be awarded for first, second, third place and honorable mention placement. Trip to New York Transit Museum
Farmingdale-Bethpage Historical Society is sponsoring a trip to the New York Transit Museum on Aug. 29 to see the exhibit entitled The Route of the Dashing Commuter: The Long Island Railroad at 175. The NY Transit Museum is housed in the old Court St. station in downtown Brooklyn. The special LIRR display includes historic and contemporary photographs, maps, illustrations and objects on loan and from the museum’s collection that tell the fascinating story of the railroad and how it contributed to the development of Long Island. Freeport H.S. Class of 1959 50th Reunion
Member of the Freeport High School Class of 1959 have planned a gala weekend to celebrate their 50-year reunion from Sept.11 to 13. Begins Friday night with a meeting at E.B. Elliot’s on the Nautical Mile to renew old acquaintances. Saturday will find the group at Jones Beach Field 6 or at Museum Row riding Nunley’s Carousel once more, in the bleachers at the Freeport vs. Oceanside football game or just riding around the village visiting old haunts. At 7 p.m. converge at the Freeport Yacht Club for dinner and enjoyment of music of the ‘50s. Before starting home on Sunday, groups will meet at local diners for farewells over brunch.
