Blood Drive
Due to the shortage of blood during the summer months, the Ecumenical Church Council of Floral Park will be hosting a blood drive from 3:30 to 8:45 p.m. at St. Elisabeth Episcopal Church, 6 Harvard St. Please donate as your blood will save other lives.
Local Marines/Families Golf Outing
The 2nd Battalion, 25th Marines Association will host its third Annual Golf Outing at Eisenhower Park to raise funds for the support of local Marine Reservists and their families. Play will take place on the Red and White Courses with a shotgun start at 1 p.m. Check in begins at 10 a.m., followed by a barbeque lunch. Play will be followed by a buffet dinner at the Carltun. Proceeds will help the nonprofit organization provide comfort and support to family members of deployed Marines; care packages for those on the frontlines of the War on Terror; and if need be, funds will be used to assist wounded Marines or provide for the survivors of any killed in the line of duty. Can two ex-vaudevillians reunite for one last show without driving each other crazy? Cantankerous Willie Clark and sometimes befuddled Al Lewis are like an AARP version of Simon’s Felix and Oscar from The Odd Couple, constantly at odds with one another when they agree to perform together for the first time in 11 years. Simon’s brilliant wit is apparent in every line, which makes for continuous laughter though not without a few poignant moments sprinkled in as well. Award-Winning Acting Studio For Kids/Teens
A Class Act NY’s award-winning Manhattan-based acting studio for kids and teens still has a few spaces left in its One-Week Broadway Camp (Aug. 24 through Aug. 28) at the Sid Jacobson in Roslyn. Kids work with Broadway actors all week long in one-hour workshops. When kids aren’t in a workshop, they are rehearsing for their Final Showcase in which they make Off-Broadway debut at the JCC’s own theatre. Campers are bused to and from Manhattan on Wednesday to see a Broadway matinee in which they have a talk back with actors from the show. Ages: 7 to 16 (two groups split up according to age). Freeport H.S. Class of 1959 50th Reunion
Member of the Freeport High School Class of 1959 have planned a gala weekend to celebrate their 50-year reunion from Sept. 11 to 13. Begins Friday night with a meeting at E.B. Elliot’s on the Nautical Mile to renew old acquaintances. Saturday will find the group at Jones Beach Field 6 or at Museum Row riding Nunley’s Carousel once more, in the bleachers at the Freeport vs. Oceanside football game or just riding around the village visiting old haunts. At 7 p.m. converge at the Freeport Yacht Club for dinner and enjoyment of music of the ‘50s. Before starting home on Sunday, groups will meet at local diners for farewells over brunch. The program reaches out to women with cancer and teaches them how to best apply makeup and wear their hair while undergoing cancer treatment. •Free/Low Cost Health Insurance. The residents of communities served by Mercy Medical Center will have the opportunity to apply for free or low cost health insurance for children, families and adults up to age 64 on the first Thursday of every month from 5 to 7 p.m. in Mercy’s Main Lobby. Staff from Catholic Charities of LI will assist you and our children applying for Child Health Plus, Family Health Plus and Medicaid Health Insurance Programs. The bi-lingual enrollers will screen adults for income eligibility for the state’s health insurance program Family Health Plus. Children are eligible for Child Health Plus. These programs cover medical check-ups, hospitalization, emergency care, prescriptions, vision and dental care.
•Zonta Club of LI, a member of Zonta International, a worldwide service organization with a local club. Members help advance the status of women and are involved in many community service activities. The name Zonta is word taken from the Sioux and stands for honesty, trust, inspiration and the ability to work together for service and understanding. At meetings members discuss and learn about issues facing women, develop and conduct fun fundraising that benefits community programs and network with Zonta International programs.
