The Long Island Junior Soccer League (LIJSL) is proud to announce that Hicksville resident Nicholas Tuifel is the recipient of the Modell’s Scholarship, which is named after the league sponsor and financial supporter of the LIJSL Sportsmanship Program for the past two decades.
Tuifel, who received the scholarship in a LIJSL ceremony on July 19 at the Huntington Hilton, is a 2009 graduate of Hicksville High School who plans to attend Farmingdale State University in the fall. He played for the LIJSL’s Hicksville Alliance and earned Most Valuable Player awards and has been a player on disciplined squads that received the LIJSL Sportsmanship Award. Tuifel has also served as the trainer for a boys U12 premier team and as a referee for the Long Island Soccer Referees Association.
According to Tuifel’s guidance counselor Rosemarie Rosenblum, “Nick is a special young man. He is mature beyond his years. He has a kind heart, a lot of integrity, a strong intellect and a positive attitude. He cares about others and is willing to work with those less fortunate than himself.”
