5-Year-Olds – The 5-year-olds played their first game as Farmingdale Titans on Sunday, Sept. 13 against Brentwood and they did a fantastic job. The kids work very hard at practice and it shows. Some great plays were made by Jayden Patterson, Daniel Seaman, Nick Napolitano, and Alexandra Gillman. All of the kids did such a great job and are excited for the next game. The 5-year-olds won, 12-6.
6/7-Year-Olds – The Titans opened the 2009 season against a tough Seaford squad and the score did not indicate the tremendous effort that these boys put out. They lost 12-0 against a much bigger and faster Seaford team. On every play, every Titan contributed in many different ways. Their offense was led by superstar quarterback Sean Gillman, who rushed for over 75 total yards, outstanding running backs Justin Steinheimer, Austin Gangale, and Robert DelPesce. Leading the way for them on the line with some hardhitting blocking was Dylan Dowdican, Sean Oppedisano, Gio Barroso, Michael Corsi and Jacob Lamboy. The offense sputtered at times but it’s only the first week. The entire Titans defense held the Seaford team to only 12 points. Again, their size and speed were tough but the Titans held their own and gave it 150 percent. The defense was led by free safety Christian Picone (9 tackles). He also had 1 forced fumble recovered by a Titan. This was not the same Picone who played last year. Picone had tremendous help from Chris Maddie, who made an outstanding lunge tackle, Joshua Gordan who made quite a few stops as well and safeties Tyler Tuma and Nick Galasso who were also vital for this Titan defense Vin Cincotta, Danny Gannett, Robert Kalinowski, Vince Mcleod, George Reichle, and Sean Zaletel. Michael Spichalsky should be commended for making tackle after tackle.
8/9 White – The Midget Titans played the Plainedge Bobcats. The team played extremely well in the first half. The defense held the Bobcats to only 7 points. In the third quarter the Titans mounted a comeback by a 60 yard TD run by running back Chris Honan. Anthony Armstrong tied the game with a two yard extra point run. The Titans held their own until late in the 4th quarter when the Bobcats scored on a 50 yard of their own. With less than a minute to go the Titans had the ball on the 50 yard line with a chance to win the game. The Titans fell short in the closing seconds.
8/9 Green Team – The Titan Green rivaled West Babylon. The field was alive with cheerleaders and supportive family. The Titans defense lead by Andrew Sullivan, Rob Thiel, Devron James and Nick Meyers showed courage and determination as they held the Eagles to 6 yards on the first 3 plays. The Eagles tailback then broke through for a gain of 25 yards placing the ball on the 15 yard line. Sean Hellmich and Mike Trocchia frustrated the Eagles as they combined for 3 tackles. The Eagles then fooled the Titans and drew first blood by scoring on an outside run making it 7-0. Our Titans then took control at their own 40. Matty Bocchino snapped the ball to Matty Olbeter who handed off to Steve Nostrand, who followed the blocking of Pat Grieshaber and ran for 12 yards. On the next play Nostrand moved to QB and handed off to Matty Olbeter, who followed the impressive block by Johnathan Krawchuck, snaked his way to the outside up field and into the end zone. The extra point fell short as Devron James was stopped at the 1 foot line.
The Eagles took over at their 40. The secondary lead by Zack Perez, Dominick Baranello and Nathan Germain fiercly attacked the ball carrier forcing a fumble. The ball took an Eagle bounce and was picked up by a lucky Eagle player. The next play resulted in a touchdown making it 14-6. As the second half began the Titans were on the attack. While Jack Zaletel lined up wide left as a decoy, Matty Olbeter threw a pass to Mike Grossmann for a short gain. Then the go to guy of the day, Steve Nostrand, took a handoff cut up behind Sean Carney and used Danny MacCarthy and Dante Coleman as blockers to run for a 25 yard gain. The fourth quarter was all Eagles scoring 22 points on 7 plays. Final 36-6.
10/11 White Team – This year started with a bang as Justin Rodriguez started the season right where he left off. He took the first Titan kick off return of the year to the house and the excitement was on its way. Back on defense Justin Palmese tackled the running back in the backfield and there were numerous great tackles by Zane Ehlinger, Joseph Cincotta, Isaiah Mitchell, Tommy MacCarthy and CJ Demers who helped anchor the defensive line for the Titans. Quarterback Matt Deluca shook off a rough start and opened the second half with a 52 yard TD pass to Justin Rodriguez who was switched to TE to allow the Titans other power house running back Isaiah Mitchell a chance to show off his stuff. He had the longest run of the day – 62 yards. Their new and improved defense forced 3 fumbles, had numerous sacks and even intercepted the ball. There were great tackles for losses as Angelo DeLuca and Travis Gangale turned up big in their starting roles as the defensive forces. New starter to the line Alex Priestley (aka Beastley) was simply outstanding on the offensive line opening holes and helping solidfiy a solid offensive line effort. Ryan McGuinness’ tackle saved a touchdown at the end of the game and Niles Rodriguez made a great grab from Matt Deluca for the extra point. Good work by Joseph Cincotta for a bunch of great tackles.
12/13-Year-Olds – The 12/13-year-old Titans opened the season against last years undefeated Wantagh Team and took them to the wire in a tough 14-6 loss. The Titans scored first on a 30-yard touchdown pass from Scott Hilbrandt to Brian Guarnieri and then battled hard the rest of the way. With nine new players, the defense made a respectable showing with Tom Ammariti, Mike Cataldo, Sam Maybury and Mike Callahan chipping in on many tackles.
