TOPSOCCER
The old adage came true once again – “it never rains on a soccer field”. The weather cooperated and our TOPSoccer Program was off to a rip-roaring start! A host of new players made their debut with the program and they were outstanding. The junior contest wound up with the Lions edging out the Ducks by a mere one goal, 4-3. Chris Cooney and newcomer Harry Owens shared the scoring honors, while Kyle Hanratty, also a new player, was super in goal. Sammy Duggan blasted away with a ton of shots for the Ducks. The seniors were in midseason form as they truly battled from the first whistle to the last. No one was backing down form the opposition in this physical challenge. The red team had three goals by another newcomer, Brett Tirado, who showed off some fine offensive moves. Matt Saraiva was a rock on defense as he stopped the green team time and again. The green team mounted their comeback in the 2nd half with goals by Stefani Egre and Robert Vittiglio but just ran out of time. Robert played an excellent first half in goal, keeping the game within reach. However, the star of the green team was defender, David Glass, who stood up to an onslaught of charges and often found himself toe-to-toe with two or three attackers, only to frustrate them as he stripped away the ball. We’re off next week for the holiday but return on September 26th. Rich Bletsch, Director

Soccer Stars vs. Thunder Cats
It was an exciting match-up between the Soccer Stars and The Thunder Cats for the first game of the season. In goal for the first half for the Soccer Stars was Allison Liman who made terrific saves, quickly throwing the ball out to her defensive line led by Channing Woo, Daniela O’Modie & Madeline Slaski. Thank You Allison for stepping up as goalie. You were Amazing!! Playing very solid offense and with a great pass from Isabella Mirro, Marcela Curcio netted a beautiful goal to the corner of the left post and the first goal of the game. Great Goal Marcelo! The Thunder Cats playing aggressively to tie up the game as the Soccer Stars try to preserve their lead, marking their opponents closely while holding their positions, the Thunder Cats came back strong to tie up the game at 1-1. The Soccer Stars did not give up following through their passes and shots on goal as Kassidy Keefe who was right in perfect position kicks a deflected shot off the goalie straight pass the goalie for her first goal of the game and takes us to end the first half of play. Great Goal Kassidy!. Stepping up to the plate, debuting in goal for the second of play for the Soccer Stars was Kassidy Keefe. She displayed great goal-tending as she saved many strong kicks form the Thunder Cats attempts at goal. Kudos to Kassidy!! With positions changes for the second half and off a corner kick from mid-fielder Paden Dvoor, Irene Tsahas traps the ball, dribbles around the defender and shoots a terrificgoal to the left corner of the net. Great Goal Irene T. and Very Good Teamwork Paden!! Holding strong in defense was Marissa Cronin and Shreya Rao who put the pressure on the attempted goals by The Thunder Cats distributing the ball away from the goal and up the sideline. Both teams demonstrated excellent soccer skills and great teamwork!! We missed the help of Irene Krische and Lior Cole. Thank You to all our family & friends for your support and for cheering on all the players. Coach Tanya

Flames 3 vs Roaring Tigers 1 Roaring Tigers took on a bigger and very aggressive Syosset Flames team for our first game. The Roaring Tigers Offense kept pushing forward led by Siohban McMullan, Marisa Menist, Dylan Sanders, and Shayna Zeitlin. Defense was big in the first half battling hard, powered by Camryn Dluginski, Bethany Ambrosio, Deirdre Lynch, Lauren Perlman, Alexandra Petricca. Silvana Siedita, did a fine job in goal making a few saves but when the Tigers couldn’t clear out a ball the Flames made the most out of it mid way the first half with a goal. In the second half Marisa Menist helped out in goal making some really great saves but she couldn’t stop a blast that whizzed past her upper right shoulder. Mid way second half Shayna Zietlin, stepped in between the pipes but was immediately tested with a shot that cleared over her head. Shayna then calmed the game down with some nice saves and some good clearing kicks from goal. Camy ‘D’ unleashed her fury as she thrashed through the Flames defense was fouled on her way to goal. None the Less Camy was relentless with a second break and this time no foul, no snags, all net to give her team the only goal of the game. We were missing two key players this week in Jordyn Siegel and Olivia Lugo. It was a great effort on a large field for our first game.

The NHP Wildcats Boys U9 Thunder took first place in the Platinum Division of the prestigious East Meadow Soccer Club Covanta Tournament held on August 29th and 30th. The team finished undefeated; going 4-0-1. The boys showed tremendous resilience by winning all three games on Sunday although they were missing John Tagios for the first two games and Thomas Mangin for the last two because of illness. Undaunted, the boys played their hearts out on a very hot day with only two subs for two of those games. It was a true team effort as every player scored at least one goal during the tournament. Congratulations boys!!!! We are all so very proud of you!
