Justin Marsella led off the top of the second by beating a close play at first. That opened the flood gates for four more runs as Michael Campagnuoplo and Joe Muratore each had hits to load the bases and later scored with clutch Dodger hitting. The Dodgers behind two 1 to 4 force outs by Joey Muratore and Cenzo Montoni, as well as a diving scoop at first base by Matthew Merolla, saved the lead in the second. Justin Yang in the third made three unassisted force outs at third to keep the Braves to only two runs. Doubles by Paulie Depaulis and Daniel McClellan sparked more offense in the bottom of the third. RBI’s by Steven DeRocchis, Michael Campagnuolo and Justin Marsella helped to maintain the lead. It was a strong team effort, Jared Puntus sparkled in the field with several nice plays, nearly catching a line drive and scoring two runs. Jesse Witt played a great defensive game, catching an inning, getting a runner out at home plate to save a run and making several nice stops in the field. Louis Messina, batting leadoff, started several rallies and scored two runs. Ryan Lessing had the hit of the game, smashing a line drive double to the outfield, getting 3 RBIs. Jack Kareff got several hits and played a great shortstop. The “Eli Goodwin, Matthew Farkas and Jack” combination helped the Athletics demonstrate why they might have one of the most formidable infields in the league.
