The Farmingdale Shamrocks U11 girls’ soccer team took first place in the Poughkeepsie Columbus Day Soccer Tournament, which was held Sunday, Oct. 11 in Poughkeepsie. The Shamrocks went undefeated in the five games they played, ending the successful day 4-0-1.
The Shamrocks tied their opening game and won the next four by scores of 4-1, 4-0, 2-0 and 5-0. The defense, anchored by Hailey Lospitalier, Sophia Nemeth, Bethany Santos, Stephanie Hinck and Francesca Capucciatta played solid defense all day long. Goalie Theresa DeSantis made a number of aggressive and acrobatic saves, allowing only one goal. Forwards Lisa Bianco, Grace Murphy, Alexa Simon and Christina Maher scored 11 of the 15 goals. Midfielder Dayna Abramowitz was solid in playing both ends of the field, contributing two goals and playing aggressive defense. In the fourth game, the girls defeated Syracuse, 2-0. That set up an exciting final match against Fairfield, another undefeated team. Farmingdale led 3-0 at halftime and won by the final score of 5-0.
