All Hallows’ Celebration

The St. Anne Mother’s Prayer Group invites children of all ages and their families to the 3rd annual All Hallows’ Celebration. Come dressed as your favorite saint. Learn about the history of Halloween and All Soul’s Day while playing games, making crafts, hearing stories and getting treats. March in a parade of saints. Pizza will be available for a donation of $2 per slice (includes one drink). 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the St. Ignatius Loyola School cafeteria, E. Halloween Party

The Hicksville Boys & Girls Club will host its annual Children’s Halloween Party at St. Stephen’s Church, 270 South Broadway. The event will feature a costume contest, music, games, food and fun for all. Registration is limited to children in kindergarten through fifth grade and parents can pick up or call 822-KIDS for a permission slip. Registration will run through Oct. 26.

Senior Seasonal Flu Vaccination Program

Held by Nassau University Medical Center, 2201 Hempstead Tpke., East Meadow, between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. in the NUMC auditorium. The NuHealth System seasonal influenza vaccination program is provided at no out-of-pocket expense for seniors 60 and older, who are urged to bring their Medicare card if they have one. Note that this program is for seasonal influenza only. H1N1 influenza (formerly known as Swine Flu) vaccine will not be offered at this program. As part of the year-long celebration marking its 150th Anniversary, St. Ignatius Loyola Parish will be holding a Dinner Dance from 7 to 11 p.m. in Msgr. Tarrant Hall, E. High Rollers Casino Night

At Hicks Nurseries

Located at 100 Jericho Tpke., Westbury. The nursery is handicapped accessible throughout. The following is offered:
•Through Oct. 31: Family Fun. There will be tractor-drawn hayrides and roasted corn on the weekends, a barnyard of farm animals, homemade fudge, candied and fudge apples, fresh-baked pies, New York State apples and thousands of pumpkins. The popular Otto the Ghost, appearing in person and in the free animated story Otto’s Green Halloween, in which the little ghost learns simple ways to help the earth through recycling and reusing. Hicks asks visitors to bring a nonperishable food item. All the food collected will be donated to Long Island Cares to benefit hungry people on Long Island.
•Oct. 31: Tucking Your Pond in for the Winter. Getting your pond ready for winter begins in the fall. Our pond expert, Rich Fronc, clears away the myths and misconceptions about what ponds, fish and plants need to get through the winter. 2 p.m.
•Long Island’s talented chefs are coming to Hicks Nurseries to demonstrate special holiday dishes. The chefs will provide tastes of what they prepare and recipes. All sessions are one hour long and begin promptly at 11 a.m. in the Henry Hicks Learning Center. The demonstrations are free and reservations are not necessary but space is limited. Oct. 31: Dry Aged Prime Standing Rib Roast with Lou and Josh Kreitzman, Prime Time Butcher, Roslyn Heights and Woodbury. Nov. 7: Polenta with Giuseppe Ruta, chef and proprietor, La Bottega Corporation, Garden City South and Roslyn.
•Nov. 7: Find Your Green Thumb: Houseplants for Beginners. No home or office is complete without a few houseplants, but not all houseplants are created equal. Our expert, Vinnie Drzewucki, CNLP, will focus on a few of the easiest ones to grow and share advice for their care. 2 p.m.
•Nov. 14: Backyard Birdfeeding Basics. Not all birds migrate to warmer climes and those that hang around Long Island are always searching for food. You can bring them to your yard by following the advice of Vinnie Drzewucki, CNLP. 2 p.m.
