International Division Boys U9NHP Wildcats Thunder
Finishing undefeated (4-0-1),
The New Hyde Park Wildcats Thunder took home the second place trophy at the Syosset Soccer Club Columbus Day Tournament in a very talented and challenging major division. In the eight team division, Thunder was matched up against the top five teams and outscored their opponents 11-2. Everyone put in a great effort as each match turned into a hard-fought battle but the boys persevered and eventually were able to wrestle control of each game. There was outstanding goaltending primarily by Thomas Donnelly with assists from Sean O’Connor, John Tagios, and Thomas Mangin. We saw stalwart defense from Evan Bandini, Dylan Figueroa, Ryan Moon, and Sujith David. There was exceptional ball movement by midfielders/forwards Sean O’Connor, Ryan O’Sullivan, Sean Kerwin, Nicholas Tagios, Thomas Mangin, John Tagios, and Thomas Donnelly. The weekend of games showed total team effort. Congratulations boys!

TOPSOCCER
New Hyde Park will host their annual LIJSL TOPSoccer Tournament on Saturday, October 31st, at 9:00 a.m. at the Denton Avenue field. For you early risers, preparation starts at 7:00 a.m. with the games beginning at 9:00 a.m. Several clubs will be attending for the very first time, so this should be a well-attended event. Come on down and see what all the excitement is about. You can even wear your Halloween costumes to the field. You might even get a head start on your trick-or-treating at the field.

Cosmos 4 vs. Big Thunder 2
On a cold Saturday afternoon, the Cosmos and Big Thunder played an exciting game at Manor Oaks. After a wide open, high scoring first half which ended with the Cosmos ahead 3-2, the teams played a tough defensive second half with the Cosmos getting the only goal to take the win 4-2. Kunal Suri made a spectacular save on a powerful kick from Big Thunder forward Thomas Mangin to keep the Cosmos ahead before Thomas Donnelly capped off a terrific game with his fourth goal of the contest to push the lead to 4-2. Not once but twice, did Thomas and Sean Kerwin run beautiful give and go plays both ending in goals for the Cosmos. Sean had several nice passes during the match and played a strong defensive game at midfield for the Cosmos. Kunal Sheth played a terrific all-around game which included a perfect goal kick to Thomas Donnelly behind the defense for a goal. Nick Duras was excellent in goal during the first half; he then teamed with Matthew Chung and Patrick Devine on defense in the second half to shut out Big Thunder for the balance of the game. Controlling the ball and passing it up to his teammates, Nikhil Nair had a few nice plays. Patrick and Nick had several powerful kicks which gave scoring opportunities for the Cosmos. Tommy Fitzpatrick, Alex Lopes, and Dennis Stylianou all played solid at forward putting pressure on goalie William Nikas who played very well for Big Thunder. Sean Chacko scored a goal for Big Thunder on some nice moves. Thomas Mangin and Sean McClellan played good ball for Big Thunder. All the boys showed great effort.

New Hyde Park Panthers 3 Vs. Albertson 0
On a beautiful fall Sunday morning, the Boys U13 New Hyde Park Panthers were looking for their seventh win in a row. Standing in their way was a strong Albertson Team. The Panthers came out on top of the game, controlling the ball and dominating the middle of the field with Jake Kennedy and Mike Lopez. The first goal of the game came off a corner kick from Eddy Argueta with Nicholas Winkhart winning the ball and putting it past the goalie. The defense played a solid game with Peter Tagios not allowing anyone past him in the stopper position. Mike Varrone cleared the ball out of his right defense zone with powerful kicks and had solid throw-ins throughout the game. Physically powerful as forward, Connor Kearney was able to feed the ball to his outside wings throughout the game. Within five minutes into the second half, Nicholas Winkhart made a move past Albertsons’ stopper and put his second goal of the game into the back of the net. Kyle Facibene used his speed on the outside to control the left side of the field playing rock-solid during the whole game. Giving one hundred per cent off the bench was Jacob Rigos, Anson Varghese, Brian Hingerton, and Pauric Coyle who had a powerful shot on goal that sailed over the cross bar. Sam Stempler was sturdy in goal, not allowing any goals and long goal kicks which contributed to the shutout. Congratulations boys!

GU10 NASSAU MAJOR: NHP LADY PUMAS – 2, MASSAPEQUA – 2
The wind and rain of Saturday did nothing to dampen the spirits of the girls as they took on a very powerful Massapequa team that was 3-1 going into the match. The girls passed the ball extremely well on the turf, had the better of play, and just missed on numerous chances to score. The Pumas got on the board first, about 10 minutes into the game when Kira Crehan struck a hard and low PK (handball in the box) that skipped by the goalie to make it 1-0. The girls built a 2-0 lead when Kira C fed Cara Becker on a beautiful killer pass that Cara drove home and slammed in a goal to make it 2-0 at the half. Massapequa fought back and tied the game in the second half, but the Pumas had several chances to take the lead in the late stages as Izzy Glennon, Tiffany Velin and Kaitlyn Krems all just missed on last minute chances. Kaitlyn had 4 shots on goal, and had a super chance for a header goal, and then a hard angle shot, with minutes left that would have sealed the deal but just missed. Izzy had a nifty one-touch shot off a corner kick feed just over the crossbar. Tiffany just missed, near post. The D of Sophia Leeds, Casey Sanders, Theodora Papadoniou, Mackenzie Griffin and Stephanie Karczewski did a great got frustrating the Massapequa attack. Casey S in particular, had an outstanding game holding down the middle. Isabel Ugolini had a very solid game at Center Mid, as did Edna Dudek in goal. The game ball goes to Kira Crehan for her excellent PK goal and super killer pass assist. Very nice effort, ladies – keep up the good work!
GC HOT SHOTS 3-2 NHP ROARING TIGERS
The Roaring Tigers had a big challenge ahead of them facing a tough and big squad of girls when they took on Garden City Hot Shots. Things looked promising in the first half of the game with a strong performance by the Roaring Tigers who played hard and dominated most of the game. Really playing the villain and a giving us a super highlight show was Silvana Seidita who shut out the Hot Shots making 8 great saves and the last three saves sacrificing her body
and diving into the oncoming attackers to steal scores away from GC’s Hot Shots. With minutes left in the first half Dylan Sanders with a good pass to Siohban McMullan got away into a fast break in front of the GC’s goal and slams it away for her first goal of game and first of the season. Siobhan’s goal was sure a special one with her older brother looking on who had just returned home from a tour in Iraq. In the second half the Hot Shots got on the board and struck early but the Roaring Tigers kept clawing their way back down the field and with a nice pass from Jordyn Siegel over the middle of the goal box to Olivia Lugo as she punch kicked the ball into the back of the net to take the lead once again. With a tough penalty call against the Roaring Tigers inside the box the Hot Shots made the most of it with and indirect kick, kicked it over the head of our defense and goalie for goal to tie the game. With seconds left in the game the Hot Shots were able to steal a goal kick away from the Roaring Tigers and put it away to end the game with a 3-2 win over the Roaring Tigers. The Roaring Tigers missed the help of Deirdre Lynch.
BONNET DIVISION
Soccer Stars U 9 Vs. Firecrackers –
On a warm sunny, October Sunday morning, it was another exciting match up between The Soccer Stars and The Firecrackers. Playing with only one substitute, the Soccer Stars played spectacular and fought very hard for control of the ball. Irene Krische making several outstanding saves in goal, deflecting off those strong shots by the Firecrackers. Taking control of her goal box, and talking with her defense, when she was able to get possession of the ball and along with the amazing help of her defense led by Madeline Slaski and Channing Woo breaking up numerous runs by the Firecrackers, and marking their opponent very tightly not enabling the Firecrackers to cross the ball in front of the goal. Very consistent and extremely strong on the mid-field position was Irene Tsahas scoring three beautifully placed goals away from the goalie. Irene T’s first goal made from the assist of her midfielder Isabella Mirro placing the ball down the center of the field. Great Pass Isabella!! Great teamwork Soccer Stars! Kassidy Keefe had many explosive runs, switching the ball to the far side of play and making self passes around the Firecrackers. Daniela O’Modie, Marissa Cronin and Marcela Curcio playing very solid on the offense, pressing hard on the Firecrackers defense. Their throw-ins were on target, their goal kicks were strong and placed toward the open spot. The Soccer Stars played a phenomenal, exciting tough game today. We are all so proud of each and everyone of you!! Thank You to our family & friends for cheering the players on to victory!! Missing the help of Paden Dvoor, Lior Cole, Allison Lyman & Shreya Rao.
