Gregory Adami Knows Oyster Bay
Gregory Adami said of the mystery picture in the Oct. 29 issue of the Enterprise Pilot, “Its down at Beekman Beach, past the WaterFront Center. The water is down at low tide over to the right at Shore Road. I’m down there all the time. It’s been my beach all the time I’ve been in Oyster Bay,” said the lifelong resident of the area. “I grew up here.”
Rachael Meyer of Active Motion physical therapy called to correct her address in the Oct. 29 issue which came from the chamber of commerce Internet site: visitoysterbay.com.
“The address is 20 Audrey Avenue,” she said. On the mystery picture, she said, “I don’t recognize it off hand. I might if I expand my kayak horizons. I live near the beach in Huntington harbor. That’s why I don’t recognize it, I kayak in Huntington.
“But locally, I recently particiated in a Doubleday Babcock Senior Center event on Oct. 14: an American Physical Therapy Association screening for balance and fall prevention. We had a lot of fun. Balance benefits with exercise with motion, and for the ankles. We check to see if there is a gait problem or a true balance problem. We test to see how slow or fast you get out of a chair and get away. We check on a soft surface to see your balance on an unsteady flooring. Not being able to walk on grass is a common problem and involves ankle response. Some people lose the ability to know by feel the position of their foot and ankle and we work on that. Sometimes it’s a trunk problem.
“We try to test in several different ways to find what the problem is and to give you a plan to address it. Medicare covers the physical therapy if you have a diagnosis of a gait problem or if there has been an injury. They usually pay for therapy for a musculoskeletal diagnosis or if there is a nuerological problem. A doctor’s referrals usually allows the therapy,” said Ms. Meyer.
“DBSC is a great place, and I got to see people I’ve worked with before having a good time at the center,” said Ms. Meyer, of 20 Audrey Avenue.
Billy Minicozzi guessed it was a man fishing with his daughter.
“The mystery picture is Beekman Beach in Oyster Bay. I go to that beach a lot, it’s nice and quiet. I live in Oyster Bay for four years and now I live in East Norwich. It’s a great place to live,” said Daniel Wilson.
An e-mail from Rich Reynolds said, “This week’s picture looks like it might be the view from inside the former Stevenson Academy. Am I right?”
Yes he is right as long as you take the long view of the location – currently the digs of Active Motion. And, the view is great, isn’t it!
