Joseph A. McLaughlin Jr., formerly of Oyster Bay and Locust Valley, died on Oct. 29, 2009 at the age of 89. Born in Brooklyn on Dec. 23, 1921, to Joseph A. and Helen (nee Burgtorf) McLaughlin. He was a graduate of Georgetown University and The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. Joseph served in the U.S. Army during WWII as a first lieutenant and was awarded the Bronze Star for his valor in Normandy on D-Day. He was the husband of the late Nancy Power McLaughlin.
During his career, he was a corporate executive at Nabisco, Borden and for Mobil Oil. Joe was a dedicated volunteer for the past 20 years at the Red Cross, Mrs. Jones Attic and at the North Shore INN soup kitchen in Glen Cove.
Father of Joseph (Patricia), David (Genellen), Nancy (Gary) Petterson, Cynthia (George) Mudford, Stephen (Darlene) and Suzanne. Grandfather of Catherine (Milo) Lanoue, Rebecca, Tricia, David and Helen McLaughlin, Christian, Eric, Matthew and Kathryn Petterson, George, James, Catherine and Lucy Mudford. He is survived by his brother John and his sister Helen Mary. He was predeceased by his brothers, Robert, Francis, James and Peter.
Arrangements were made by the Francis P. DeVine Funeral Home, Oyster Bay. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Dominic’s RC Chapel. Donations may be made in Joe’s name to the North Shore INN, 12 Continental Place, Glen Cove, NY 11542.
