Joe Crookston Serenades the Garden Stage

One of New York’s finest singers and songwriters will showcase a remarkable range of musical talent and storytelling at Garden Stage at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation in Garden City at 8:30 p.m. Joe Cookson presents Stomping Loud in Minor Keys and Story Songs and Jamborees. The performance will be preceded by an open mic from 7:30 8:30 with sign-up at 7. Homemade refreshments are available during intermission. Holiday Fair/Kidz Boutique

Temple Tikvah, 3315 Hillside Ave. (one block west of Herricks Rd.), New Hyde Park will hold its annual Holiday Fair from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. A new Kidz Boutique will have a variety of reasonably priced items for children and adults to purchase. The Nursery of Temple Tikvah will host its first gently recycled toy, book and game sale Dec. 6 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Breakfast with Santa

Continental breakfast featuring a DJ, holiday singing and dancing, face painting, live entertainment, gifts for each child and a visit from Santa himself. 9:30 to 11 a.m. at the L.I. Holiday Dining Ideas

Drop by Hicks Nurseries, 100 Jericho Tpke., Westbury, from 1 to 4 p.m. and pick up creative holiday dining ideas as Renee Levine of Robert Rothschild Farm offers tastes of their products. She will informally offer holiday entertaining ideas with flavors that can be used to create simple and sophisticated dishes to add to your party table from hors d’oeuvres to leftovers. The nursery is handicapped accessible throughout.

Advent Breakfast

The pubic is invited to an Advent Breakfast to be held at 9:15 a.m. at the Garden City Community Church, Stewart Ave. and Whitehall Blvd. One does not have to be a member to attend. The breakfast will consist of a lovely meal and Christmas crafts for all young children.

The Imperial Presidency of Alvaro Uribe

Award-winning journalist Mario A. Murillo, an associate professor at Hofstra University and former host of Wake Up Call on WBAI Pacifica Radio in NYC, will talk on “The Imperial Presidency of Alvaro Uribe: Human Rights in Colombia,” offering an overview of the state of human rights in Colombia in the midst of the ongoing internal conflict. The free meeting, sponsored by Amnesty International Group 74, will be held at 11 a.m. at the Ethical Humanist Society of LI, 38 Old Country Rd.

Archaeological Institute of America

LI Society meeting at 2 p.m. in Room 106, Breslin Hall, Hofstra University, Hempstead. Call 796-7261. Program: AlA/LIS Members Presentation. “DNA and Archaeology” – The National Geographic Genographic Project’s video, “Journey of Man” is the basis for this presentation that explains how archaeologists use DNA information. Irish Cultural Society

The author of a book about the Irish on the New York and New Jersey waterfront, the back story of the classic movie On the Waterfront, will speak at the meeting of the Irish Cultural Society. 8 p.m. at the Garden City Library, 60 Seventh St. Admission is free. Dr. James Fisher’s book On the Waterfront: The Crusader, the Movie and the Soul of the Port of New York tells the story of the piers on the west side of Manhattan and the Hudson County piers in the 1940s and 1950s.

The Love List

The Theatre and Dance Department at Nassau Community College presents the Norm Foster comedy The Love List, which will be performed Dec. 10 through 13 and Dec. 16 through 20 at the Mainstage Theatre. In this thought-provoking comedy, two middle-aged friends, Leon and Bill, concoct a list of attributes of the ideal woman—the top 10 qualities in a mate. When the lovely Justine surprisingly arrives on the scene, the men quickly learn that their list could use a few revisions. Performances will be at 8 p.m. each day except Sundays, when the performance will begin at 3 p.m. Tickets are $9; $7 seniors aged 55 and over. Blood Drive

The Floral Park Knights of Columbus hosts an annual Christmas Blood Drive and this year the Blood Drive will be held in loving memory of Emma, Alyson, and Kate Hance. The Hance Family Foundation Blood Drive will take place at Our Lady of Victory School in Floral Park, from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. Please help preserve the memory of these wonderful children and help to save countless other lives by donating blood on this day. Healthy individuals ages 16 (with parental permission) and older are encouraged to donate. All blood donors must provide a Social Security number and photo identification.

Holiday Music Concert

The Waldorf Choral Society, with soprano Elizabeth Farnum and an orchestra, will present a concert of holiday music at 3 p.m. at the Cathedral of the Incarnation, 50 Cathedral Ave. The concert will feature works by Bach (Christmas Cantata No. 142), Vivaldi (Beatus Vir), and Michael Haydn as well as other holiday selections. Irish Culture Meets Pop Culture

As part of the free series of cultural events and lectures sponsored by Molloy College’s Irish Studies Institute, Brian Cogan will examine how 100 years of Irish culture have influenced American popular culture. The fun begins at 3 p.m. in the Reception Room of Kellenberg Hall at Molloy College. Take a look at Thomas Nast’s Irish cartoons and their influence on early American cartoons, Irish stage plays and songs, Irish folk music and its influence on Dylan the American folk scene, Samuel Beckett’s influence on Seinfeld, Bono’s influence on what it means to be American today. Legal Consultation for Seniors

The Nassau County Bar Association provides free monthly legal consultation clinics for Nassau County residents 65 or older. Seniors have the opportunity to meet one-on-one with an attorney who volunteers to provide a half-hour private consultation on any topic of concern. The next clinic will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at NCBA, 15th and West Sts., Mineola. This popular free program regularly fills up quickly.
