The Farmingdale Boys Swimming and Diving Team won three meets last week. Coached by Ken Ilchuk and Randy Corcoran, the Dalers beat a small and undermanned Westbury team 51-35.
Highlights of the meet included freshman Kristofer Harris winning the 100 Yard Breaststroke, senior Richard McBane finishing first in the 100 Yard Freestyle, freshman Jonathan Low coming in first in the 100 Yard Butterfly, sophomore Justin Burtis winning the 200 Yard Individual Medley and sophomore Christian Kalinowski finishing first in the 500 Yard Freestyle.
The boys then went on the road to face rival Massapequa. Poised to be a close meet, the Dalers took charge early and never looked back winning 99-82. Featured were wins by junior Greg Carman in the 200 Yard Freestyle and the 500 Yard Freestyle, junior Joe Scaglione won the 100 Yard Freestyle and came in a close second in the 50 Freestyle just behind senior Joe McCabe who finished first. The back and forth between these two sprinters each meet is very exciting to see. Senior Kyle Young easily won the diving event, followed by junior Billy Specht and sophomore John Gonzalez.
Strong swims were turned in by seniors James Farrington in the 200 Freestyle, Yeimer Bran in the 100 Butterfly, TJ Murphy, freshman Vlad Surmenko in the 100 Backstroke, senior Steve Makropoulos and Burtis in the 200 Individual Medley.
Both the Medley Relay and 200 Freestyle relay events were dominated by Farmingdale as they finished first and third in these events. The Medley Relay was led by the team of Scaglione, Harris, senior Paul Giglio and McCabe, followed by the team of Murphy, sophomore Michael McDanie, seniors Chris Capozzoli and Tom Gehlbach. In the 200 Freestyle Relay the team of Scaglione, Gehlbach, Carman and McCabe finished first followed by the team of senior Victor Quijano, Makropoulos, Giglio and Farrington in third. These swims sealed the deal for Farmingdale, who continue to look strong and lose time in the water.
Next up was a meet against Hempstead, a small team. These meets give Coaches Ilchuk and Corcoran a chance to see underclassman swim and have the boys compete in different events.
