More Holiday Safety Tips

The Village of Garden City is well protected by our police force and although our crime rate is very low, the holiday season is a prime time for home burglaries. This time of year most of us have quite a few purchases in our homes. Burglars also know that many of us are often away from home at holiday events and parties. To reduce your chances of being the victim of a burglary, the following is recommended:

• Keep your alarm system armed even when you are at home. (A permit is required for an alarm).

• Doors, windows and all entry points should be closed and locked. Before opening up a door, check to see if you know who your caller is.

• During the evening hours, keep your lights on outside. If you have trees and shrubs around your house/windows, try to illuminate them and keep them well trimmed so that they do not become hiding places.

• Ladders and other items that can be used to gain access into your home should be kept locked in a garage or shed.

• Keep an eye on your neighborhood and don’t hesitate to report anything or anyone that seems suspicious.

Board of Trustees Meeting Schedule

There is only one regularly scheduled Board of Trustees meeting in January, which will be held on Jan. 14, 2010.

Shop in Garden City First

Residents in the Village of Garden City are very fortunate in having a vital business community comprised of merchants who are committed to serve us from their shops along Franklin Avenue, Seventh Street and New Hyde Park Road. I urge each of you to continue to patronize these local businesses during the holidays and throughout the year. Our business community wants to know how they are doing, so take a minute the next time you are shopping and let them know what you think about the quality of their products and attention to customer service.

For quality, selection and outstanding customer service, shop Garden City first!

Village’s Website

I encourage residents to periodically utilize the village’s website for information regarding the village’s operations, as well as items of seasonal and special interest. The address is www.gardencityny.net. For your convenience, listed on the village’s home page under the Heading Administration page is information regarding “Tax Information.”
