Over 100 interested business owners, civic leaders and community residents gathered Jan. 23 for the Hicksville Downtown Revitalization Workshop, which was held at the VFW on South Broadway.
The workshop consisted of a downtown design presentation by Vision Long Island, headed by Eric Alexander, Elissa Ward and their design team. Retail and market area information was presented by AECOM, a firm launched in 1990 that has become one of the largest providers of professional, technical and management support services in the world. Both groups provided insight and information on how Hicksville could be revitalized to support new business and entice residents to the area.
Both groups made their presentations and answered questions from the audience. After a brief lunch break, attendees were encouraged to draw their concepts of Hicksville’s future on aerial view maps and then discuss their results with others. The consensus of opinion was that the triangle area stemming with the Long Island Rail Road and going south should be considered for modification first.
The workshop was hosted by Hicksville’s Chamber of Commerce and Community Council and special thanks goes out to the following supporters: The William M. Gouse Jr. Post 3211, VFW for use of their premises; Starbucks Coffee at Old Country Road for the breakfast treats and coffee; Viajos Pizza and Pasta on Levittown Parkway for the pizza and salad lunch; and to National Grid, Strategic Aerospace, Thomas F. Dalton Funeral Homes and Prepaid Legal Services for their financial and physical support. The workshop was free to all who registered to attend.
A public meeting will be part of the Hicksville Community Council’s scheduled general meeting on Thursday, March 4 at 7 p.m. at the William P. Bennett Community Center, 28 West Carl Street.
