Oyster Bay Receiver of Taxes James J. Stefanich reminds taxpayers that they have the right to challenge their latest Property Tax Assessment.
“Grievances may be filed with the Nassau County Assessment Review Commission during the ‘grievance period,’ occurring Jan. 4 to March 1, 2010,” Stefanich stated. “During this period, taxpayers may examine the assessment rolls and obtain grievance application Form AR1 at the Nassau County Department of Assessment, 240 Old Country Road in Mineola. To receive an application in the mail, or receive assistance over the phone, the Assessment Review Commission may be contacted at 571-2391. Assistance to taxpayers will also be provided at a help desk on the 4th floor of 240 Old Country Road.”
Stefanich noted that the application forms and information are also available at local public libraries and on the Assessment Review Commission’s page of the county’s website at http://www.nassaucountyny.gov/agencies/ARC/forms.html. In addition, Stefanich has obtained a limited supply of applications and has made them available at his offices located at Town Hall, 74 Audrey Avenue, Oyster Bay; Town Hall South, 977 Hicksville Road, Massapequa; and, from Feb. 3 through Feb. 10, at the William P. Bennett Hicksville Community Center, 28 W. Carl Street, Hicksville.
Stefanich added, “Any taxpayer who believes an error has been made regarding their property assessment should take advantage of this opportunity to establish a correct and fair assessment value for their home.”
The completed application should be mailed or delivered to:
