The Manhasset Women’s Coalition Against Breast Cancer (MWCABC) is once again participating in the Long Island 2 Day Breast Cancer Walk. Now in its seventh year, the walk will be held Saturday, June 5 and Sunday, June 6. Through its participation in the walk the MWCABC is one of many local grassroots breast cancer organizations receiving funding for programs that assist with breast cancer awareness, education, screening and diagnosis; transportation, physical therapy, support services (such as medical expenses, prosthetics, wigs, child care) and scholarships to Long Island high school seniors whose parent/guardian is affected by breast cancer. To date the MWCABC Outreach Program has received $113,000 to provide aid to those diagnosed with breast cancer in Manhasset and surrounding areas.
This year the MWCABC is fortunate to have certified personal trainer, Marie Nicolaides, leading training walks to help prepare walkers. She will take them on rigorous walks throughout Manhasset and neighboring areas such as the Sands Point Preserve and the property surrounding the Nassau County Museum of Art. All who want to start getting into shape and/or provide encouragement for the LI2Day walkers are welcomed, as well. The first walk will begin at Manhasset High School at 8 a.m., Sunday morning on March 14. Join them, challenge yourself, walk for a great Long Island cause!
The LI2Day is open to all men and women at least 16 years or older. Day 1 is 20 miles and day 2 is 15 miles. Meals are provided, as are tented sleeping accommodations. There will be a professional staff of podiatrists, chiropractors and massage therapists available. Volunteers are also needed throughout the weekend for four-hour shift assignments. Please visit www.li2daywalk.org and join or donate to our Team MWCABC. 100 percent of your donation will go toward the cause.
