Church of Holy Spirit to Offer Defensive Driving Course
The Church of the Holy Spirit, 500 Jericho Turnpike, New Hyde Park will hold a defensive driving course sponsored by the National Safety Council from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. The cost is $45. Participants will receive a 10 percent reduction in the liability and collision portion of their insurance premium and it will also remove four points from their driving record. St. Aidan Rosary Altar Society To Hold St. Patrick Celebration
St. Aidan Rosary Altar Society will hold its annual St. Patrick Supper Dance from 8 p.m. to midnight in Msgr. Kirwin Hall. Stroke Smart: Prevention And Awareness
Winthrop-University Hospital’s Health Update for Seniors community education series will present a free program entitled Stroke Smart: Prevention & Awareness” on March 10. The program begins with a lecture at 1:15 p.m. followed by blood pressure checks at 2:45 p.m.. It will be held at the Mineola Community Center, 155 Washington Avenue in Mineola. Kathleen Michel, nurse practitioner, coordinator of the Cerebrovascular Program at Winthrop, will explain the warning signs of a stroke and the significance of taking immediate action to seek treatment. “It’s crucial that people understand that time is of the essence,” said Ms. Michel. “Given the medications and treatment options available, getting to the hospital quickly may make a difference in the quality of life for the patient.” Attendees will also learn about risk factors and how they can reduce their risk through preventative measures. A presentation highlighting proper retirement planning and its role in financial wellness for seniors is scheduled for noon at a meeting of the New Hyde Park Seniors. The meeting will take place at Clinton G. Martin Park at Marcus Avenue and New Hyde Park Road in New Hyde Park. The featured speakers will be John P. Merendino and Joseph M. Liana, partners in Merendino, Liana & Associates on Stewart Avenue in
Westbury, a leading financial planning firm representing Ameriprise.

Attorney General Consumer Fraud Awareness At Notre Dame
On March 15 at 7:30 p.m. a consumer fraud representative from New York State Attorney General Andrew Cuomo’s office will speak at Notre Dame School on consumer fraud as part of Attorney General Cuomo’s statewide Consumer Awareness Initiative. The presentation will inform participants on how to best avoid consumer scams, such as sweepstakes, bank freezes, mail orders, fake charities, “phishing” emails, check cashing scams, and identity theft.
