Thirty-two Receive Honors, 6 of 8 Teams
Achieve Scholar-Athlete Status,
Bowling Ranked #3 in Nassau
The Hicksville Public School District Athletic Department invited student-athletes to an informal evening of recognition for the 224 participants in the winter season. The event began in the auditorium, where Director of Physical Education, Health, Athletics, Driver Education and Recreation Mr. Matthew Calarco shared some impressive statistics about the winter student-athletes.
For example, six out of eight teams received New York State Scholar-Athlete Team status and 32 students earned honors ranging from All-County to All-State. Particularly impressive was the final ranking of the Boys Bowling team, who placed third in Nassau County and was named the #4 team on Long Island by Newsday. “What you see here this evening is a testament to the strong academic and athletics program we have here in Hicksville thanks to the support of our Board of Education and Superintendent of Schools,” stated Mr. Calarco, who also thanked the parents and community for their support of the student-athletes.
Following their time in the auditorium, each team met in alternate locations in the high school to reflect on their season and receive special coaches awards. Families of the athletes were invited to attend these casual group meetings to share in the joys and successes of another successful season for Hicksville athletics.
