Bells are Ringing
The NCC Theatre and Dance Department present the musical Bells are Ringing, which will be performed through March 21 at the Mainstage Theatre. Written by Betty Comden and Adolph Green with music by Jule Styne, this charming musical is set before the time of answering machines and advanced technology. In it, Ella works as an operator at her cousin Sue’s telephone answering service, taking messages and getting involved in her customers’ lives. She even falls in love with a writer whom she’s never met. In the meantime, Sue’s boy- friend is running an illegal bookmaking ring out of the Susanswerphone office right under her nose. Performances at NCC will be at 8 p.m. Fridays; 3 p.m. and 8 p.m. Saturdays; 3 p.m. only on Sundays. Tickets are $15; $12 seniors over 55; $7 children under 18. LI Quilters Show Off
Quilters and quilt-lovers should mark their calendars for the Long Island Quilters’ Society’s biennial quilt extravaganza, “Asian Inspired” on March 20 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and March 21 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Garden City Field House, 295 Stewart Ave. (near the Garden City LIRR Station). The show will feature more than 200 traditional and art quilts created by regional quilters. Spring Break Video Game Design Workshop
Hofstra University, Hempstead, Summer Camps will host a special Video Game Design workshop for students in grades 4 to 12 during spring break, March 29 to April 1, from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The program fee is $399 and includes lunch and a recreation period. Alzheimer’s Day Program

Bereavement Groups

•Group 1: A woman’s bereavement group is available to help women share and learn about their grief. Groups are held on a weekly basis and are facilitated by a licensed clinical social worker.
•Group 2: The death of a love one is hard for all of us but especially for children. A 12-week bereavement support group is available for children ages 7 to 9. Groups will be held on Saturdays and are facilitated by a licensed social worker.
Cradle of Aviation Museum
In the world of aviation, signals and coded messages are an important part of how airplanes and air traffic control speak everyday. The Cradle of Aviation Museum has a variety of free family activities. Walk through the eight museum galleries and you’ll walk through over 100 years of aerospace history with 75 planes and space craft and a variety of examples of how pilots navigated and communicated from the early days of flight through the space program. Museum activities are free with admission and are available each day from noon to 4 p.m. The museum also is home to the IMAX Dome Theatre and is located on Charles Lindbergh Blvd., Museum Row. Elder Abuse
If you are 60 or older and are being hurt by someone who should be caring, you are not alone. If you are suffering from abuse, mistreatment or neglect at the hands of family members or someone who is living with you, help is available. Epilepsy Foundation

•Free Puppet Show on Seizure Disorder. A free children’s program on epilepsy using the internationally acclaimed “Kids on the Block” troupe of puppets to public and private elementary schools. Exhibits
•Adelphi University presents its 5th Outdoor Sculpture Biennial installed throughout the landscaped arboretum gardens and pathways of the Garden City Campus, 1 South Ave., through April 1. The exhibition features the diverse works of 14 sculptors and is free and open to the public. Call 877-4462.
•LI Center of Photography presents the works of LI-based photographer, Phyllis Goodfriend, at the African American Museum of Education and Applied Arts, 110 N. Franklin St., Hempstead, through April 30. Phyllis traveled to Namaqualand, a province of South Africa, and then to Namibia. Her photographs are a document of that journey taken in 2008.
You Have Options!
In 1982 Options for Community Living, Inc., was established to help respond to the need for supportive housing for people living with mental illness. As the Mental Health Residential Program continued to expand, Options began serving homeless families as an emergency shelter provider in 1990. A few years later, Options opened a comprehensive case management and housing program for Long Islanders with HIV/AIDS. A small not-for-profit organization with humble beginnings has since grown to serve over 800 individuals and families with special needs across Long Island. •Employment Referrals for Seniors. The NC Dept. of Senior Citizen Affairs is a resource to employers seeking qualified workers and to mature job seekers, 55+, who want assistance with employment and resume preparation. Services are free of charge.
•The Foster Grandparents Program is recruiting senior volunteers to share their time and love with children in Nassau County. Volunteers receive a non-reportable stipend, transportation reimbursement, paid holidays, sick days and vacation days.
•If you are 55+, make your spare time count. Join the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program, a national organization, and share your talents and skills at one of the many diversified placements.
Sons of Italy
Order Sons of Italy in America is seeking new members to join the America Lodge #2245, Franklin Square, Elmont, West Hempstead, Floral Park, Garden City, Stewart Manor and Malverne. A membership drive is currently in progress. The America Lodge #2245 is a co-ed lodge with many projects that enhance the preservation of the members’ Italian heritage.
