Asian-American Cultural Festival
The fourth annual Asian-American Cultural Festival of LI will be held at Roosevelt Hall of Farmingdale State College, the event will feature natives of various Asian countries presenting cultural exhibits, live performances, art exhibitions, interactive shows and ceremonies. The festival has been called a visual extravaganza for its colorful costumes and displays and is free to attend in the afternoon from 12:30 to 5:30 p.m. Children will enjoy the Lion Dance, workshops, craft demonstrations and entertainment such as puppet shows geared especially to them. There will periodic drawings for raffle prizes for all ages. Throughout the afternoon there will drawings for raffle prizes for all ages with the proceeds going to both the relief efforts in Haiti and the LI-based Interfaith Nutrition Network. The program from 6 to 9:30 p.m. will feature a stage performance by noted Asian artists, an awards ceremony, VIP networking reception with foods of many nations and a Chinese raffle. Irish Family History Forum
Presents Genealogy Talks. Fintan Mullan and Brian Trainor of the Ulster Historical Foundation in Belfast present two programs: “The History of the Ulster Plantation and the 17th-Century Records Related to It.” The impact on Catholics both Scottish and Irish will be emphasized and a comparison of the plantation to the Munster and Leinster plantations will be made. “Genealogy Databases of the Ulster Historical Foundation and Other Sources: A Tutorial.” Attendees should bring along the names of elusive ancestors and hope for a match. Host by Barbara Novack welcomes award-winning poet Yolanda Coulaz, of Farmingdale, author of Spirits and Oxygen, a collection of poetry used in an advanced course in poetry at SUNY Stony Brook, and the forthcoming Reckoning. She also edited and published the poetry anthology For Loving Precious Beast to benefit Loving Touch Animal Rescue. Widely published, she teaches poetry writing workshops on Long Island. Mill Neck Family’s fourth annual Spring Swing Invitational Golf Tournament will be held at the North Hills Country Club in Manhasset on May 24. Sportscaster and author Len Berman will join the event, where he’ll play golf and speak at the Champions Dinner. Entries are limited to the first 25 men’s, ladies’ or mixed foursomes. All golfers will receive an autographed copy of Berman’s new book The Greatest Moments in Sports. Additional copies will be available for purchase.
