ESPN 1050 radio has teamed with Melrose Credit Union to award a current high school senior MVP student-athlete with a $5000 college scholarship. This school year, five student-athletes were honored each month from nominations submitted to www.1050espn.com.
In February, one MVP student-athlete was selected from among the monthly finalists to receive a $5000 college scholarship courtesy of Melrose Credit Union. This year the scholarship went to Oyster Bay High School Senior Kerri Apicella.
Kerri just came off a great season in the goal for the Oyster Bay High School Varsity Field Hockey Team. Kerri helped lead the team to finish the season undefeated in league play. Kerri also helped lead the Lady Baymen Basketball team to the post season play this year. Right now, Kerri is getting her arm warmed up to take the mound for the Lady Baymen Softball Team this Spring.
The following was posted on the ESPN website along with a picture of Kerri:
“Softball, Field Hockey, Basketball, Track, Volleyball
“That’s right – 5 sports! Not surprisingly, that sort of drive has earned Kerri the captain’s role for two years, two team MVP awards, two All-County honors, and a Class C MVP award. When she is not dominating athletics, she conquers academics, sporting a 4.0 GPA and 104.3 weighted average, ranking her in the top 10 percent of her class. Kerri also stays very active in her community, heading the Interact Community Service Club and being a strong supporting member of Students Against Drunk Driving (SADD).”
