On March 5, Jake Robinson joined the Oyster Bay High School band on the main stage of Carnegie Hall. Jake describes the evening on the world’s most famous stage in New York City as a “life changing experience that I will never forget.” Not even a week later, Jake found out that he had been selected for All-State honors for his athletic abilities.
The New York State Sports Writers Association picked Oyster Bay High School Senior Jake Robinson and Oyster Bay High School Alum Alex Hudak for All-State honors. The two Oyster Bay athletes were chosen for the New York All-State Baseball 1st Team.
Jake and Alex went to the state finals twice last year. Both young athletes were in the New York State Final Four with the Basketball Team and the Baseball Team. Alex Hudak graduated from Oyster Bay High School last June and is now attending Haverford College outside Philadelphia.
Jake Robinson is currently a senior at Oyster Bay High School and plans to attend SUNY College at Oneonta where he intends to study Education. Jake says that he “likes working with little kids” and is looking forward to becoming an elementary school teacher. Lucky is the school that will hire Jake to teach their youngest students. Teaching by example is always most effective. From the breadth and depth of his experience and abilities, Jake Robinson will be a stellar example for his future students. Not only is Jake a celebrated athlete and musician, but his academic schedule is filled with Advanced Placement and Honors classes. A true Renaissance man who could pursue any career, Jake understands that there is nothing more important than the education of the next generation. Everything that shapes the world from science to sports to politics to the arts, all begins with education. Jake Robinson will be an excellent addition to the noblest profession.
Jake has already become involved with teaching younger students. For two years Jake, has been an active member of the Student Athletic Leadership Program (SALP) here in Oyster Bay. The Student-Athlete Leadership Program consists of a select group of student-athletes that participate in a unique training program focused on issues relating to self-esteem, substance abuse prevention, sportsmanship, civility, bullying, and teasing. These student-athletes are nominated by faculty and coaches and are accepted based on an application, essay, and interview. By attending a series of training sessions throughout the school year, the High School’s student-athletes prepare to conduct presentations for fifth and sixth grade students at Vernon Middle School. These presentations enable these student-athletes to serve as positive role models for younger members of the community.
This year the Student-Athlete Leadership Program held several fundraising events that included the third annual Volleyball Tournament in which the money that was fundraised went to the Thanksgiving food drive. The students also held the first annual “Guard the Holiday Pin” tournament in December in which the money raised went to the Toy Drive at the high school. The third event the group held was the Midterm Madness Volleyball Tournament in which 7th, 8th, and 9th graders got to end midterm week with a night of playing volleyball. The events had a large number of participants and there are plans to increase the number of events and participants every year.
The accolades continue to mount up for Jake. On March 22, Jake was selected All-Conference for the 2009-2010 Basketball season. Jake attended an awards dinner along with his teammate Joe Carbone who was selected All-County for his Basketball skills.
Jake is now preparing to take his All-State abilities back to the Baseball field once again for the Baymen this spring.
