Jessica Craft Knows Oyster Bay
Jessica Craft called to identify the April 1 mystery photo. She said, “It is the flagpole at Teddy Roosevelt Park.”
She is correct, although we were hoping for a tighter location and we actually encourage you to take a longer look at the photo. Interested?
Billy Minicozzi guessed the picture in the photo was made by hand and was on a wall in one of the Oyster Bay schools, and he guessed it was the Roosevelt School. On a sports note, he was rooting for Duke University in the Final Four. It took place on Monday night. What was so interesting is that this was Duke’s 10 championship game. Interestingly, as the press has been commenting, coach Mike Krzyzewski has been at Duke for 30 years. Butler coach Brad Stevens is 33 years old. But added to that Duke is heavily favored with Butler as the underdog. Overall, this year’s Final Four will get a lot of ink since there were a lot of upsets in the games!
We received an email from Richard J. Reynolds who answered the mystery picture in the March 26 edition of the Oyster Bay Enterprise-Pilot. He said, “This looks like a quilt to me. Where it is located I haven’t a clue. However the map looks like a copy of the famous pictorial map of Long Island drawn by Courtland Smith, originally published in 1933 and re-issued in 1961.
“Keep those weekly Mystery Pictures coming!” said Rich Reynolds, formerly of Glen Cove and now of Niskayuna, NYS.
His answer was really interesting we thought.
The picture, we remind the reader, was done by students at the Roosevelt Elementary School.
Keep on guessing, it keeps your mind active!
