Florence Lisanti, the only woman ever elected as trustee to the New Hyde Park Village board, and then named deputy mayor, resigned her current position as the village historian.
At the last village board meeting, board members and Nassau County Legislator Richard Nicolello, of New Hyde Park, presented Lisanti with citations of appreciation for all the work she has done for the village.
Lisanti has held the title of New Hyde Park Village Historian for many, many years and due to her diligence many historical photos of New Hyde Park grace the walls of New Hyde Park Village Hall, on the corner of New Hyde Park Road and Jericho Turnpike.
Lisanti has been involved in New Hyde Park since she moved here, from Queens, more than 40 years ago with her husband Gerald, who was an outstanding math teacher. They raised their daughters in New Hyde Park, all attending New Hyde Park schools.
Not only has she been involved in the village, but she is also a former president of the New Hyde Park Chamber of Commerce, working diligently on the committee for Christmas lighting which continues to this day up and down Jericho Turnpike, in New Hyde Park. She is also a founder of the very successful New Hyde Park Village Street Fair, also continued on to this day.
Lisanti is a former president of the Nassau County Council of Parent Teacher Associations and as a result of all the work she did with this organization from being named president of the PTA at the Hillside Grade to the president of the entire council, she received their highest award which is the “Life Time Membership Award.”
After donating all the village information, including pictures accrued over the years, to the village Lisanti has decided to step down.
Therefore, the village is actively looking for someone to volunteer to become the next New Hyde Park Village Historian.
