On Saturday June 12, the FDNY is sponsoring the second annual Tommy O Memorial 5k Run/Walk. This event honors the memory of Tommy Orlando, a NYC firefighter who died tragically on Dec. 4, 2008. Tommy was a community activist and very involved in youth sports in Hicksville.
The race will be held at Wantagh Park, rain or shine. On site registration begins at 10 am and the race will start at 11 am. All race participants will receive a T-shirt. Refreshments will be served following the race.
The fee is $30 for adults and $10 for children 13 and under. Please make checks payable to Engine 65 and in the memo line show Tommy O.
Proceeds from this event will be donated to the Holy Family CYO Tommy O Memorial Scholarship fund. Holy Family CYO awards two $1,000 scholarships annually to high school seniors who have demonstrated a commitment to community service throughout their high school careers. The 2010 Tommy O Memorial Scholarship winners will be announced June 3.
