On a beautiful sunny day, more than 40 sixth-grade girls from the Garden City Girls Lacrosse Program participated in a very special lacrosse clinic held recently in May on the fields at St. Paul’s.
The clinic was conducted by lacrosse star Kristen Kjellman and the event raised more than $1,500 for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
Kjellman played college lacrosse for the Northwestern Wildcats and made her debut in 2004, when she was named Inside Lacrosse National Rookie of the Year, Co-National Rookie of the Year, and led Northwestern to win three straight national championships from 2005-2007. Kjellman was also a four-time All-American and the winner of the 2006 and 2007 Tewaaraton Trophy, awarded to the top player in college lacrosse and became the first athlete, male or female, to win the award in consecutive seasons. She is a member of the U.S. National Team and works for Nike in a lacrosse-related sales position.
The girls engaged in many different drills and learned new skills from Kristen. More importantly, Kristen demonstrated her true passion for lacrosse and how with hard work and perseverance any goal the girls have in life can be accomplished. Afterwards the girls enjoyed food, drink and ice cream.
