Wildcats to Hold Summer Soccer Camp
The NHP Wildcats Soccer Club, in it’s continuing partnership with the MLS NY Red Bulls will be offering a Summer Soccer Camp the week of July 5th through July 9th at Tully Park in New Hyde Park. Firecats Win Plainedge Father’s Day Tournament
The New Hyde Park Girls U10 Firecats took first place in their division in last weekends Plainedge Father’s Day Tournament. The girls came ready to play on Saturday winning all three games, scoring a combined total of 11 goals while not allowing a single goal against. They looked sharp on Sunday as well outscoring their two opponents four to one in the brutal heat to take the championship.
TOPSoccer
An absolute perfect finish to a perfect season. The festivities at our final game of the season started with some well-earned presentations. Our premier teenage coach, Katrina Bychko, was recognized for winning a $1,000 LIJSL TOPSoccer scholarship. Then Katrina was awarded a $500 check for being selected as the winner of the 2010 TOPSoccer Ullrich Award, which is presented each spring to the outstanding TOPSoccer coach in the NHP Program.
The Ullrich Award is presented in memory of a former NHP TOPSoccer player who passed away in 1997. Katrina has been one of the best young coaches we have ever had. We will sorely miss her as she begins her college career in pharmacy school in Philadelphia in the fall.
Then it was on to the fields for the ‘parents vs. players’ matches. The junior contest was a bit of a surprise as the parents, with limited practices, were able to put three goals in the net, thanks to the efforts of Mrs. Hom, Mrs. Hanratty and Mr. Cooney but the players had too much firepower to be denied. Goals by Kevin Chan (2), Tommy Ko (2), Sammy Duggan and Desmond O’Callaghan sealed a relatively easy win. Great goal keeping by Petros D’Amico and super play by striker Charlie Hinz kept the parents at bay. The senior game was much closer as the parents capitalized on the few chances they had to score twice. Mr. Stominger opened the scoring for the parents with a shot off a scramble in front of the net. A nice series of passes culminated with the 2nd tally by Mr. Stein, but the parents, as expected, ran out of gas and the athletes pummeled the goal with a barrage of shots. Brent Tirado notched two goals and Frankie LaPinta scored the 3rd to ice the victory and keep the parents winless in 38 tries. And so the drought continues. Preserving the win was the outstanding play by Debbie Chin, Michael Raihl, David Glass, Christina Kerwin, Andrew Raihl and Tristan Yang. Thanks to all the coaches this season: Andrew, Krys, Jessica, Katie, Matt, Matt, Rich, Katrina, Jessica, Megan, Teddy, Stephanie, Tony, Danny, Kevin, Matt, Andrew, Victoria and James. A special note of thanks to 2 unique coaches, Mary Jo Bursig and Brian Evers, for their dedication and commitment to the Program.

U-10 Girls Division
NHP Roaring Tigers go 6-7-1 For Spring Season
The Girls did remarkably well in improving as a team and individually. All the girls seemed to raise the bar of improvement during the season and in tournaments. Leading our team and giving a Most Valuable Player like for a second season was Olivia Lugo with 14 goals and 9 assists. Right behind her was her counter part from the right side Jordyn Siegel with 11 goals and 3 assists for a left-right knock out punch. Sandwiched in between were Marisa Menist and Siohban McMullan each with 4 goals and 3 assists. Playing hard and certainly was second runner up for Most Improved Player for our season was Dylan Sanders with 3 goals and 2 assists. Dylan in the last few games seemed to have toughened up and using her body more to shield away the bigger girls from the ball. Camryn Dluginsky was our enforcer at the center defender, playing most of the minutes of every game, and Bethany Ambrosio with nice ball handling, both played opposite skills of one another but played hard every game and both with simiular results 1 goal and 1 assist for each. Three girls that were very stable on defense for us and who each possessed very strong kicks were Deirdre Lynch, Alexandra Petricca, and Lauren Perlman. Lauren had two assists in one game to help out her team with a victory. Shayna Zietlin with on goal for us was our utility player, playing all positions and doing exceptionally well including forward, defense, and even goaltending. Whenever Shayna was at the game she would look at me and let me she “wanted to win”. Last but not least was our Most Improved Player recipient, who’s our youngest player, playing the hardest position on the field Silvana Siedita our goalie. Silvana has come a long way and has learned a lot over the two seasons and has worked hard with her goal training coach to improve her confidence and her position on the field.
