Marty Lyons Foundation to Host 25th Annual Celebrity Golf Classic

On Monday, July 19, the Marty Lyons Foundation will host its 25th Annual Celebrity Golf Classic at the Old Westbury Golf and Country Club. Brothers Mike Ryan, president of The LandTek Group and Ed Ryan, vice president of The LandTek Group, will be honored at the event as the 2010 Men of the Year. The LandTek Group, the foremost leader in athletic field and golf course construction, is the corporate sponsor of the fundraising event. Golf-outing registration and brunch will be 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., and the cocktail and dinner reception will be at 5:30 p.m.

“Honorees Mike and Ed Ryan have faithfully supported the Marty Lyons Foundation. They have stood resolute in the desire to extend a generous helping hand to the MLF and its noble mission of granting wishes to children with life threatening or terminal illnesses. This was especially true when there was a downturn in the economy that tested the ability of the MLF to fulfill the special wishes of all its wish children. Mike and Ed share a passion for making all the special wishes come true. Both men have embraced the MLF mission and have brought much joy into the lives of so many children and families,” said Marty Lyons.

“It is an honor to share the Marty Lyons Foundation’s 2010 Men of the Year Award with my brother Ed. We admire the Marty Lyons dedication. He is a role model for people like Ed and me. We have found it very satisfying to lend our support to encourage and bring joy into the lives of the wish children and their families,” said Mike Ryan.

“The Marty Lyons Foundation is a remarkable organization that has accomplished so much over the past 29 years. I am pleased that Mike and I have been able to work together with Marty for the benefit of the children who have life-threatening and terminal illnesses. It is most gratifying to be able to really brighten the lives of children and their families,” added Ed Ryan.

The Marty Lyons Foundation is a nonprofit organization founded by Marty Lyons, a former NFL defensive lineman for the New York Jets and member of the legendary “New York Sack Exchange.” The MLF grants wishes to children, between the ages of 3 to 17, who have terminal or life-threatening illnesses. Marty Lyons’ determination led to the establishment of the MLF dedicated to granting the wishes of seriously ill children after his own personal experiences with sickness and death. With the encouragement of his family and friends, he formed the Marty Lyons Foundation in 1982. Since that time the organization has worked to keep hope alive in the hearts of thousands of children and provide support to their families.
