#1 Ranked Golfer on the LPGA Tour
The #1 ranked golfer on the LPGA Tour will be making an appearance here on Long Island for a cause that has great personal importance to her.
Cristie Kerr will be the keynote speaker at the American Cancer Society’s Babe Zaharias luncheon being held on July 14 at the Glen Oaks Country Club in Old Westbury. Kerr is a crowd favorite who started playing golf when she was 8 years old. She just completed a stunning 12-stroke victory at the season’s second major with a closing round of 66 at Locust Hill. She has also become a leader in the fight against breast cancer, a matter of personal importance since her mother Linda was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2003. In addition, Cristie’s aunt and godmother all had breast cancer.
On display at this event will be the Cristie Star Collection designed by Cristie Kerr and Kwiat jewelers. Proceeds from the sale of this limited edition collection will go to support breast cancer research and awareness through her foundation, Birdies for Breast Cancer and the Babe Zaharias Memorial events.
The Glen Oaks “Babe” (as it is called by the many women who participate) is chaired by Fern Kwiat. With the appearance of the top-ranked Kerr, there is sure to be an even heightened level of excitement and a renewed focus on the important cause that she has so generously embraced.
