House Passes Much-Needed Legislation Aimed At Lowering Costs to Manufacturers
Yesterday, I voted in favor of the U.S. Manufacturing Enhancement Act of 2010 to help thousands of U.S. manufacturers compete at home and abroad. This legislation, which passed the House with a final vote of 378-43, contains hundreds of tariff suspensions and reductions that will help American companies manufacture and sell goods to continue growing and supporting American jobs. These reductions and suspensions of import duties lower costs for materials that American businesses use in production and thereby increase the competitiveness of our products.
Also known as the Miscellaneous Tariff Bill, this legislation will help build a strong American economy by leveling the playing field for U.S. firms. This bill is estimated to support tens of thousands of jobs, helping increase U.S. production and expand gross domestic product (GDP) by billions of dollars.
This U.S. Manufacturing Enhancement Act will help to ensure American manufacturing prosperity by promoting competitiveness, innovation and exports. I commend my colleagues in the House, both Democratic and Republican, for showing such strong, bipartisan support in order to help small businesses and U.S. manufacturing create jobs. By passing this bill, it is one more step toward economic recovery and job growth in America. I urge the Senate to address and pass this legislation to ensure that American manufacturers start to see these benefits in the near future.
