Drug Bust Handled Swiftly
I was visiting my granddaughters in Texas at the time of the drug bust that went bad on Willis Ave. last Friday. However I was alerted quickly by our Village Clerk Julie Kain and in touch with the 3rd Precinct, NCPD, almost immediately after the situation was under control. Building Inspector Kerry Collins contacted St. Aidan’s as their summer program was in session. School personnel at Herricks closed down Center Street School (Summer Rec. Program in session) quickly as word of the incident spread. Drugs and crime are blight throughout this great country but when an event takes place in your own community it becomes more realistic and frightful. Thanks to the officers of the Nassau County Police Department there were no injuries and this situation was brought under control in quick fashion. The location of the event, while taking place in Williston Park, is not indicative of our neighborhood.
On a much more positive note, the pool season continues to be a success with high temperatures and little rain sending many to the cooling comfort of the pool.
Roadwork continues at a rapid pace and although away for the past week, I have remained in touch with village staff and our engineers regarding progress. With the state having passed their budget and progress being made with NYSDOT, I am hopeful that the Ackerman grant for roadwork will finally begin.
Neighborhood Watch: National Night Out was observed in the Village on August 3. Block Captains met at the Gazebo to kick off the night. POP Officer and Deputy Inspector Sean Connolly joined Doreen Ehrbar and Bill Darmstadt in thanking Block Captains in our effort against crime in the village. Residents throughout the village are the eyes and ears to ensure that we are safe and through their Block Captains can report any suspicious activity. The decals that were passed along show that we are a village committed to a safe environment and they should be placed in your front window. If a burglar comes through the village and sees house after house with a decal in the window, they know this is a community on alert. After the gathering, Block Captains went home to light their luminary bags and join neighbors in our observance of National Night Out.
It is expected that the recreation committee will resume operations in the very near future. Bill Casey, Tim Casey and Tara Bridges along with Trustee Kevin Ryne expect to present ideas for the community.
Please continue to drive cautiously through our village. Our residents, especially our children, are our greatest asset and we all need to be mindful of the dangers of careless driving habits. Please observe all traffic devices and speed limits.
