Runner’s Edge is hosting a summer blood drive from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the parking lot behind its store at 242 Main St. Donors must bring ID with signature or photo, weigh at least 100 pounds and be between the ages of 16 – 75 (16 year olds must have parental permission. Age 76 and over need doctor’s note). Appointment times run every 15 minutes. The Runner’s Edge is offering 25 percent off all apparel for anyone donating during this drive. Benefit for Low Income Seniors
A fundraiser to support “Senior Dreams Come True” will be held at Chili’s Restaurant, 901 Broadhollow Rd., Farmingdale, which will donate 10 percent of the entire bill (lunch or dinner) for those that dine at the restaurant and show a GDGC “Senior Dreams Come True” voucher. The voucher can be obtained on the website: www.genserlaw.com. The program will benefit low income seniors on Long Island by granting wishes – from helping a senior meet basic needs to fulfilling a lifelong dream. As advocates for seniors, Genser Dubow Genser & Cona, a leading elder law firm in Melville, has launched “Senior Dreams Come True” through its subsidiary GDGC Charitable Events, a nonprofit organization.

•Aug. 17: Housing and Development Task Force. Boost the housing industry by educating the general public on the housing and development options available on LI. Help the Task Force to continue the development and implementation of community outreach programs and road shows to take educational seminars to key communities on Long Island. Plans will continue for the second annual housing conference, study proposed development projects, and the subcommittees will report. 9 to 10 a.m.
•Aug. 18: Play an active role in the development and implementation of the second Annual LI Wellness Challenge and bring the challenge to LI middle schools. The Task Force is also working to keep small businesses up to date on the effects of the new Federal Healthcare Legislation and planning a Women’s Health Event in November. The subcommittees will report. 9 to 10 a.m.
•Aug. 25: Transportation Task Force. The Task Force will be discussing ideas to develop an innovative transportation infrastructure on LI. The subcommittees will report on MTA takeover of Nassau and Suffolk County bus systems, the progress of re-opening the LIRR station at Republic Airport, construction progress on Route 110 between the LIE and the NSP and the planned construction on Route 347. 8:30 to 10 a.m.
•Aug. 26: The Environmental Task Force will continue development of its plan to eliminate the use of fossil fuels on LI, continue implementation of ALI’s commercial recycling program, and further our plans for a clean energy marketing campaign. The subcommittees will also report. 9 to 10 a.m.
