Alice in Wonderland Theme Fair
Don’t be late for a very important date! The 58th Annual Fall Fair at St John’s of Lattingtown, Overlook and Old Tappan Rds., Locust Valley, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. $5 donation per person; children under 12 free. Previews will begin at 9:15 a.m. with a donation of $20. For this event Alice in Wonderland is the chosen story. All children, and the young at heart, are invited to dress in costume as one of the characters. There will be a parade of characters at 2:30 p.m. and prizes will be given for the most creative costumes. At 11 a.m. there will be a parade of bagpipers as the Gordon Highlanders perform and at 1:30 p.m. Magician David Funn will entertain. There will be antiques, collectibles, jewelry, plants, baked goods, Christmas items, a silent auction, sporting goods, books, children toys, games, bouncy rides, and lots of food, from bagels and coffee for breakfast to hamburgers, hot dogs and roasted corn for lunch. Gala Night by The Bay
All interested members of the public are invited and welcome to share a Gala Friends Night by The Bay with The Friends of Sagamore Hill from 7 to 10 p.m. at the Sagamore Yacht Club in Oyster Bay for a buffet supper and a presentation of “Secret Treasures from TR’s Basement.” Artifacts and treasures, never before seen or publicly displayed from Theodore Roosevelt’s home will be presented by staff from the Sagamore Hill National Historic Site and guests will also enjoy cocktails and a buffet supper overlooking Oyster Bay harbor. Family Bingo Night
Boys and Girls Club of Oyster Bay-East Norwich members, their families, and friends will gather at the Clubhouse to celebrate “Boys & Girls Club Day for Kids” with a fun-filled Family Bingo Night. This free event is being hosted by the club’s Parents’ Council. The event begins at 6:30 p.m. and is open to all club members and their families. Prizes will be available for youngsters who win and shout out “B-I-N-G-O!” There will be refreshments available for purchase and families can pre-order dinner packages for the evening. The club is looking for parents to volunteer as Bingo callers and to assist with the distribution of prizes. 2010 Public Concert Series
Presented by the Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory at 6 p.m. in the Grace Auditorium, Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, One Bungtown Rd., Cold Spring Harbor. Program: Hahn-Bin, winner of the 2008-09 Young Concert Artists International Auditions. Hahn-Bin earned his diploma in 2009 from the Juilliard School, where he worked with Itzhak Perlman and Catherine Cho. He has been working with Mr. Perlman at the Perlman Music Program since 2002 and performed the Dvorak Piano Quintet with him at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in 2008. Hahn-Bin plays an 1825 J. F. Pressenda violin from the Mandell Collection of Southern California. In addition to playing the violin, Hahn-Bin works regularly on creating visual artworks and composing poetry. Deaf Comedienne Trix Bruce to Perform
Mill Neck Services announces a very special show with renowned deaf comedienne Trix Bruce at the Mill Neck Manor Deaf Education Center auditorium, 40 Frost Mill Rd., Mill Neck. An American Sign Language performer, teacher, workshop presenter and actress, Trix will perform a show entitled “The Hearing World Around Me,” at 7 p.m. Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door. At the live, one deaf-woman show, Trix will thrill the audience with her charismatic humor, experience and insight. A voice interpreter will be provided at the show. One RID CEU (Continuing Education Unit) clock hour will also be provided to interpreters. English Equivalents Workshop
Mill Neck Interpreter Service will host a workshop entitled “English Equivalents: Whoa! Train Zoom Gone. Did You See What She Signed? What Did She Mean by That and How Can I Say it in English?” featuring American Sign Language performer, teacher, workshop presenter and actress Trix Bruce. 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Mill Neck Manor Deaf Education Center auditorium, 40 Frost Mill Rd., Mill Neck. Sponsored by Bruce, the workshop is free to all MNIS interpreters. The fee for non-MNIS interpreters is $75.
