Requests to Doreen Ehrbar
I prefer to begin my column on a positive note, whenever possible. However on a somber note, it is necessary to report that a resident who has displayed a Neighborhood Watch decal was contacted by an unknown individual. This individual requested permission to come to the family residence for a safety inspection. This is not a function of the Neighborhood Watch program. I have not heard of any other residents being approached in a similar fashion to this, at this time. The family, rightly so, did not comply with this request and I am directing anyone who gets this type of request to immediately call 911. Betty Ann Pristupa was recently honored by the Town of North Hempstead Department of Community Services. She is the recipient of the Town of North Hempstead Senior Citizen Certificate of Recognition for Service to the Community. Betty Ann is a valued member of the Williston Park Auxiliary Police Unit. Her volunteer hours of dedication to our village are greatly appreciated.
Congratulations to the recently revitalized Recreation Committee for their First Annual Family Fun Day, held at Kelleher field. Kudos to The Casey trio of Bill, Tim, and Tara along with chef Kevin Rynne for their successful efforts. Weather was spectacular and attendance was fantastic. The “kids”, both young and old, who participated seemed to enjoy the afternoon events.
I’d like to take this opportunity to congratulate Angela Williams of the Village Gift Shop as she has been named Auxillian of the Year for Winthrop University Hospital.
In a past article I mentioned the process for that takes place regarding tree/sidewalk concerns. As I receive a copy of all requests coming to Village Hall, I’m amazed at how many requests are filed. At this point in the calendar year, the village has received approximately two requests each day requesting work to be done. Our tree/highway crews are busy trying to keep up with these requests. As the village has moved forward with road projects, our crews have been directed to assist in different ways with the projects, limiting their time elsewhere in the village. With limited resources the village has been moving forward with the requests but not always as fast as we would like. Please be patient as Keith Bunnell, Superintendent of Public Works and his staff are working diligently to respond as quickly as possible. Also, I should note that concrete work is coming to an end for this year as the highway crew will begin sealing many of our roads in anticipation of winter weather. Requests that have been sent to the village will most likely be held until the spring. Again, limited resources requires strategic planning.
The village water department will begin flushing our water mains as part of routine maintenance. They expect to start October 25th with an anticipated completion date of October 29th. Prior to the work beginning, notification will be given out to residents. At the time of the flushing household water may turn rusty for a short while. When this action takes place, run the household water until the water runs clear.
This past Monday, Columbus Day, as I drove throughout the residential areas of the village, I was quite impressed as residents, for the most part, were in compliance with the holiday garbage schedule. Our streets look much more attractive without garbage out all day. As the saying goes “Together We Can make A Difference”. Thank you for your cooperation and please refer to the holiday schedule on a regular basis. For the past six months copies have been included with water bills in order to bring about better awareness.
