The Theodore Roosevelt Triangle will be dedicated on Saturday, October 30, at 1 p.m. The statue of Theodore Roosevelt Rough Rider, currently being cleaned and waxed will be in place for the ceremony.
Jack Bernstein, president of the Theodore Roosevelt Statue Fund, Inc., the organization that owns the statue, said the day will include the dedication of the TR Triangle Park and the re-dedication of the statue.
Mr. Bernstein replaced Rotarian Andy Tini on the committee. “I succeeded Andy Tini at his request. Unfortunately he knew he was terminally ill. But he never stopped,” said Mr. Bernstein, an attorney and great friend of Mr. Tini who worked in real estate.
Rotary raised the funds for the new statue to be made using the original molds made for the Alexander Phimister Proctor statue. A representative from the A. Phimister Proctor Museum in Poulsbo, WA is expected to attend the dedication.
Mr. Bernstein is the president of the Theodore Roosevelt Statue Fund, Inc.; Mike Rich is the vice president; Roger Bahnik is the treasurer; and John Hammond is the secretary. Mr. Hammond is preparing the official release on the dedication which will be ready the week of Monday, Oct. 25.
It will be a great day for TR fans. Theodore Roosevelt Association Executive Director Terry Brown said sailors from the USS Theodore Roosevelt aircraft carrier will be there. The TRA is holding its 91st annual meeting in Seattle, Washington, from Oct. 22 to 24, which had been taken into consideration when deciding on the day for the dedication. Mr. Brown will be back in time for the wreath laying at the gravesite on Oct. 27 at Youngs Cemetery, a private event.
Mr, Brown said, “The lights will go on at the triangle on Wednesday, Oct. 27. On Thursday, Oct. 28, they will move the statue and have it in place on the mound.
“The ceremony will take place on Saturday, Oct. 30, come rain or shine.”
A town spokesperson said the arrangements were put together quickly to have the statue in place before the winter weather sets in.
