East Farmingdale: One Dead, Three Injured in Plane Crash

A single engine 1969 Marchetti made a crash landing early Sunday, Oct. 17 on E. Carmans Road in East Farmingdale, piloted by Gus Halouvas, 55, of North Bellmore.

Halouvas and three passengers, Ed Cerverizzo, 75, of Garden City, William Mancusi, 83, of Brooklyn, and Charles Bianculli, 61, of Lindenhurst were executing practice landings when the plane’s engine failed, police said.

The plane landed near homes in East Farmingdale, though no one on the ground was injured.

Cerverizzo was taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Bethpage where he was pronounced dead at 9:45 a.m. Halouvas, Mancusi, and Bianculli were taken to other area hospitals for spinal, facial and other injuries, but are expected to make full recoveries.
