Make a Difference Honorees
The untiring work of volunteers makes a difference in the lives of many individuals in our community. The Town of Hempstead is filled with many citizens who dedicate their lives to helping others.
Whether it’s collecting more than 100,000 schoolbooks for needy children in Thailand or donating one’s salary to a foundation supporting pediatric cancer or organizing countless annual Thanksgiving food and Christmas toy drives, these residents are dedicated to the betterment of our community. The untiring work of volunteers has a positive influence on the lives of many individuals in our community, from a teacher who donated her kidney to her student to save his life and a woman who housed and nurtured a young girl from another country while she endured several facial reconstructive surgeries.
This year, the town is recognizing 12 of these extraordinary citizens at our 14th annual Make a Difference Awards ceremony. We received many nominations and it’s heartwarming to know that there are so many exceptional individuals who unselfishly give of themselves and are willing to volunteer their time. Those who were chosen truly exemplify the spirit of volunteerism.
Although these fine people have not sought any recognition for their good deeds, we’d like to show our appreciation to them in the form of the Town of Hempstead Make a Difference Award. They will be recognized for the difference they have made in the town and for enriching the lives of those whom they have helped. I am looking forward to honoring the award winners and I encourage town residents to attend the ceremony to recognize these very special individuals.
The ceremony will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 9, at 7 p.m. in the Nathan L.H. Bennett Pavilion at Town Hall.
