Carla Panetta Knows Oyster Bay
Carla Panetta called to identify the mystery picture in the Oct. 28 issue of the Enterprise Pilot as: “It’s my favorite spot. It’s behind Chrison & Bellina, the lady’s gift shop on Audrey Avenue. Catherine Drabin maintains the little patio with flowers, has restored the fountain and pays for the electricity to keep the water flowing. It is a lovely place, and the store is known for its great eclectic shopping. It is located at 24 Audrey Avenue.
Ms. Panetta said Ms. Drabin paid for the restoration project out of funding she received for a photo filming session for a green market event.
“We should call it the Chrison & Bellina Patio,” she added.
Diane Meltzer, promotion chair of the Main Street Association, also has an interest in the little area. She said the bench was in the area behind Chrison & Bellina. “I’m the person who put together the Oyster Bay Sundown Concerts and that is where three of the five took place this summer.
“They were terrific concerts and well attended. The last one we had was held at The Homestead’s outdoor patio and 125 people were there singing and dancing and someone was doing his renditions of everyone from Frank Sinatra to Elvis and Tom Jones and Dean Martin. There were a lot of older people dancing and having a good time,” she said.
Barbara Davis too made a good guess. Really! She guessed, “It’s the one on the patio on the main entrance to Sagamore Hill. I remember walking all the way up the path and falling into the bench on the way to the mansion,” said the East Norwich resident. “It is made of natural wood, and I welcomed it when I reached it,” she said.
We think she is correct. That there is a similar bench at Sagamore Hill. Let us know if we are correct.
And thank you to all our readers and responders. We need you all and appreciate all of you.
