1863 Civil War Picket Post

Old Bethpage Village Restoration, Round Swamp Rd., Old Bethpage, will host a recreation of a Civil War skirmish by living history organizations on The event, organized by Company H, 119th NY Volunteer Historical Association, takes place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The NY Volunteers and other living history organizations will portray elements of the 72nd New York and opposing Confederate defenses in Virginia facing off prior to the Battle of Rappahannock Crossing. The soldiers will set up opposing outposts, or “picket posts” as they were called by the soldiers of the time. Call 572-8400.

Lung Cancer Walk

Hosted by CancerCare at the Town of Oyster Bay Golf Course, 1 Southwoods, Woodbury. Check-in 8 a.m. Opening ceremony 9:15 a.m. Ribbon cutting 9:30 a.m. New York Islander Bobby Nystrom, this year’s honorary chairman, along with Town of Oyster Bay Supervisor John Venditto will be on hand to cheer on the walkers in this approximately 5-mile walk through the golf course. LI Cross-Country Ski Club

This season’s first meeting will be held at the Plainview/Old Bethpage Library, 999 Old Country Rd., (about a quarter mile east of Route. 135.) The two-hour meeting begins at 7 p.m. and is open to everyone, from beginners to advanced skiers, free of charge. Plans for ski trips and other events for the months ahead will be discussed. Woodworkers Show

Presented by the LI Woodworkers Club on Nov. 13 and 14 at Old Bethpage Village Restoration, Round Swamp Rd., Old Bethpage, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is $10; $7 seniors and children 5 to 12. The show offers skillfully crafted furniture, from Mission to Modern, and a host of wood projects. Watch the chips fly as craftspeople turn domestic and exotic woods into stunning bowls, pierced works of art and sculptural masterpieces.
