Offers Info on New Projects
Earlier this month, the Hicksville Board of Education’s Facilities Committee provided updates on a handful of items ranging from the new synthetic turf field to high school door alarms.
A ribbon cutting ceremony took place on Oct. 22 as the district acknowledged dignitaries and those responsible for the high school’s newly completed track/synthetic turf field, which included the Town of Oyster Bay and member grants from Nassau County.
The event featured refreshments from the Boosters Club and the district on the newly renovated outdoor eating area, and the football team later christened the field in style with a victory during their final home game. The board also noted that there was “much positive feedback” regarding the new track and field.
The lighting at the Hicksville Middle School bus loop was installed in early November and trees were planted along the median and curb lines by district staff. Hydrangeas were also transplanted from the high school to the gardens along the wall of the middle school. A district representative noted that the loop is working well and is providing a “safe and efficient exit from the building to the buses.”
As for the high school door alarms, a representative explained that they are working and turned on. Specific doors will be turned off during certain events, i.e. the ribbon cutting ceremony, to allow access to the building.
Two other questions were brought to the attention of the board during the meeting: one regarding MSG Varsity coverage of various sporting events and the other relating to handicapped access at the high school. Mr. Calarco will be contacting MSG Varsity to request coverage of a game, while the board said the handicapped access question will be reviewed.
