Archaeological Institute of America

Program: Dr. Richard Burger will review the most important recent discoveries of the royal tomb of Sipan on the north coast of Peru. The tomb was filled with gold objects causing a boom in archaeological research resulting in a new understanding of the Moche culture (200-700 AD). These tombs are the richest ever found in the New World. Dr. Burger received his Ph.D. in anthropology at the University of California, Berkley. He presently is the Charles J. MacCurdy, Professor of Archaeology at Yale after years as director of the Peabody Museum of Natural History at Yale University.

The George Mercer School of Theology, 65 Fourth St, announced two special courses to be offered related to Christmas. The first course, “Christmas: Theology, History and Culture,” will be given on Dec. 11 from 9 to 11:30 a.m. The cost of the course is $25. The Very Reverend Dr. David B. Lowry, Dean of the School of Theology will teach the course.
