Letter: A Time to Reflect and Prepare for a New Year

I would like to wish you all a happy and healthy holiday season. Like most, the holidays represent a special time for me. Whether it is decorating the tree, hanging the stockings, or enjoying a holiday meal, it is all made more enjoyable by the presence of loved ones.

Along with the annual traditions and the time I get to spend with my family, my favorite part of the holidays is the spirit in which it brings. Through acts of kindness and a willingness to lend a helping hand, this time of the year seems to bring out the best in people. The charity you see is truly amazing and makes me proud to represent people that are so willing to give during these tough economic times.

The holidays are also a great time for reflection. When I look back on 2011, I am proud of the progress that has been made, specifically, opposing the MTA payroll tax, voting against a record tax-and-spend state budget and reducing the regulatory burden on Nassau County businesses. Although there is still much more to be done, I am emboldened by November’s election results and the work of the Assembly Minority Conference. I am hopeful that next year will present even more opportunities to get New York back on track.

I hope this message finds you in high spirits, not only because of the holidays, but the possibilities that a new year brings. Enjoy your favorite traditions, your family and the spirit of the season. I wish you all a happy, safe and hopeful holiday.

Assemblyman Michael A. Montesano
