Breakfast with Santa
Santa made his annual visit to Sagamore Yacht Club on Dec. 18 for breakfast with members and their children and grandchildren. This is, after all, a boating club so Santa arrived not down the chimney, but by boat at the Sagamore dock accompanied by some of his elves and reindeer.
Santa settled in an armchair near the warmth of the fireplace and next to the beautifully decorated tree. As in years past, parents were asked to bring a wrapped gift for Santa to distribute to their children. To remember the occasion, photographs were taken of each child with Jolly Old St Nick.
Before Santa arrived, the children were able to decorate Christmas tree cookies with green frosting and sprinkles.
Adults and children enjoyed a breakfast buffet consisting of scrambled eggs, pancakes, French toast, potatoes, sausages, bacon, bagels, muffins and decorated cupcakes. The chefs in charge were Bob Austin and Charlie Secker.
In keeping with the spirit of Christmas and to help reinforce the concept of “ giving” especially at this time of year, each child was asked to bring a gift such as a hat, scarf, mittens or a toy to share with children who are less fortunate. The Atlantic Steamer Fire Company was on hand with a big white fire engine to facilitate the distribution of these gifts. Each child climbed on the fire truck to personally present his or her gift to the fireman.
There were approximately 120 children and adults in attendance.
This special event was coordinated by Carolyn Rankin assisted by Donna Martin. Phil Rhodes and Nina and Guy Anastasio ably assisted Santa.
