Oyster Bay Lunar New Year Festival
Tzu Chi Academy will celebrate Chinese New Year with the theme of “Eat Vegetarian and Go Green to save the earth.” In observance of the Lunar New Year (Feb. 3, the year of the Rabbit), the students of Tzu Chi Academy will present exciting performances in the auditorium of the Oyster Bay High School, 150 E. Main St., from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Following the performances will be folk games of the Lunar New Year. Visitors along with friends and families of the school will enjoy healthy food sales at an all-vegetarian food court. Inquiry for the event, call Principal Wenshu Lin 270-6877. Portledge School Program
The school is located at 355 Duck Pond Rd., Locust Valley. The Parent Program Committee of Portledge School presents an interactive presentation about the hot topics of “sexting and cyberbullying” at 9 a.m. in Bahnik Hall. Admission is free and open to the public. Nassau County Police Officer John Dockswell will speak about sexting and cyberbullying. Sexting is the newly minted word for teens sending or posting sexually explicit photos. Come for an informative and engaging presentation. Bring questions.

Art Walk First Thursday
Art Walk features an international spectrum of contemporary artists. Get some artistic inspiration as you visit local art galleries. Other businesses and sites in town will be displaying artwork. Local restaurants will be exhibiting art and are offering a percentage off on meals, wine tastings and more. Live music entertainment is scheduled. Cafes and restaurants will remain open late for dessert and coffee. The evening will begin with Chase Edwards Gallery, 15 E. Main St. (802-0655) and continues at Atelier Gallery, 9 E. Main St.; Art (that matters), 55 W. Main St. (917-769-9921); The Teaching Studios of Oyster Bay, 115 Audrey Ave. (971-597-2404); and The Artist Club Gallery, 29 Berry Hill Rd. will also be open. Art will also be available for viewing at various downtown merchants, including Canterbury Ales, Jack Halyards and Wild Honey. The Oyster Bay Main Street Association office (17 Audrey Ave.) will also be displaying the works of local artists, with refreshments served. Oyster Flix
Anybody remember the old Lyric Movie Theater on Audrey Ave.? It’s been about 30 years since downtown Oyster Bay had a movie theater, but starting in February there will be a modified version of a theater, 17 Audrey Ave. Come gather, eat, drink, watch and discuss. To celebrate this vibrant history, The Oyster Bay Main Street Association is offering a new film series called “Oyster Flix” with an initial run of classic movies filmed in part on the north shore of LI. Movie snax’ will be available but bring your own beverages. Films (shown at 7:30 p.m.) will be immediately followed by a group discussion hosted by a speaker. $5 suggested donation /per person at the door. Call 922-6481. Coast Guard Auxiliary
The Coast Guard Auxiliary has formed a new Flotilla in the Oyster Bay area. Members are needed to assist the Coast Guard in performing new Homeland Security missions and to implement the Coast Guard’s many recreational boating safety programs. No experience or boat required. Day Break Program
