An early morning fire gutted a home on Seventh Street in New Hyde Park, during the early morning hours and claimed t he life of the homeowner.
The Nassau County Arson/Bomb Squad reports the details of the house fire that occurred in New Hyde Park on Feb. 6 at 12:50 a.m. According to detectives, the New Hyde Park Fire Department responded to a working house fire on Seventh Avenue. With the assistance of Floral Park, Stewart Manor, Bellerose Terrace, Franklin Square, Manhasset/Lakeville, Garden City Park and Mineola fire departments the fire was extinguished.
Approximately 125 firefighters and 15 pieces of apparatus were present at the scene. During the suppression of the fire the deceased body of a 79-year-old male, the homeowner, was discovered inside the living room area on the first floor. The victim’s name is not being released at this time.
Two firefighters sustained minor injuries which required transport to local area hospitals.
Arson/Bomb Squad and the Nassau County Fire Marshal’s Office were at the scene. The fire is considered non-suspicious but undetermined at this time. The investigation is ongoing.
Second New Hyde Park House Fire

Arson Bomb Squad detectives report the details of another house fire that occurred on Feb. 4 at 12:50 p.m. in New Hyde Park.
According to detectives, a fire, that appeared to start in the basement, broke out in the residence on Sixth Avenue.
Two occupants were at home at the time of the fire, a male homeowner and a female home health care aide. Both escaped the fire without any injuries.
The New Hyde Park Fire Department responded to the scene along with nine other local volunteer fire departments. There were 120 volunteer firemen at scene.
Six of the firemen were injured in the basement while attempting to fight the blaze when a sudden eruption of flames knocked them all to the floor. One of the firemen was taken to North Shore University Hospital and was treated for smoke inhalation and released.
Three firemen were taken to Winthrop University Hospital and treated for smoke inhalation, two were treated and released and one was admitted and is in serious and guarded condition.
Two firemen were taken to Nassau University Medical Center and treated for smoke inhalation, one was treated and released and one was admitted and is in serious and guarded condition.
The Arson Bomb Squad and the Nassau County Fire Marshal were present at scene and are investigating.
