I am happy and excited to announce my candidacy for Williston Park Trustee.
My family and I have been proud residents of Williston Park since 1987. When it came time to decide where we wanted to move our family, a variety of factors influenced our decision to set roots in Williston Park. When my husband John worked as a Chef at La Marmite restaurant, we would often travel through the quiet, tree-lined streets. We found ourselves admiring the attractive homes and well-attended lawns. The Village had an inviting feel and we developed an immediate likeness to its surroundings. Even more importantly, we knew our two young sons, 16 and 13 at the time, would benefit from a quality education within the Herricks School District.
When we were first married, our family lived in Queens where John and I owned and operated a thriving catering business. When we moved to Williston Park, we continued to work long hours to maintain it successfully. Knowing how hectic our lives were while we devoted our time each day to our customers, we needed the comfort of knowing our new hometown would feel safe and secure. Since our boys were often “on their own” after school, we felt the Village of Williston Park was the best choice for us. We found just the right house; began our life on Long Island and soon settled into our new community; resting assured we had made the right decision.”
Last year trustee at the time, Beth Swenson-Dowd, was appointed to Williston Park Associate Justice, and Alanga was appointed as trustee.
I am running to complete the term until 2012. I am grateful to have had the experience I gained when I served as secretary to the board of trustees and the zoning board of appeals from 2000-2006 as it provided a valuable foundation and prepared me for the diverse responsibilities of trustee.
During my time as trustee, I have learned a great deal about the village. I have served as liaison to both the Senior Committee and our newly formed Welcome Committee. Working with the volunteers on these committees has been a pleasure. My fellow board members, Williston Park Village Deputy Mayor Terry Thomann, Trustees Bill Darmstadt and Kevin Rynne and I have developed a “comfortable fit” as a team, enabling us to engage in honest and productive discussions of village issues. Along with the very capable leadership of Mayor Paul Ehrbar, we strive to move the village forward.
Additionally, I have come to appreciate the perseverance and commitment required to run the village efficiently. My objective as trustee is now, and will continue to be going forward, to manage all required tasks to the best of my ability with honesty and integrity.
I welcome the opportunity to continue to serve my Village as Trustee and to work alongside our Mayor and our Board of Trustees. I look forward to your support on March 15th and thank the Village of Williston Park for the opportunity to give back to the hometown that has given so much to me and my family through the years.
