Farmingdale Chamber to Hold Comedy Night March 10
The Farmingdale Chamber of Commerce will present Comedy Night on Thursday, March 10 from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. at The Nutty Irishman, 323 Main Street in Farmingdale. The show will feature three top area comedians as seen on Comedy Central. There will be a $15 cover charge, and cash bar. Proceeds will go toward promoting business in Farmingdale. Root Pruning Workshop
Hosted by The Bonsai Society of Greater NY. Resident bonsai artist Vincent Russo Jr. will lead participants through the process of inspecting bonsai for being in a ‘root bound’ condition, and then lead everyone through the process of removing the correct amount of soil and roots and refreshing the planting. These techniques are appropriate for houseplants as well as bonsai. Bring a sturdy pair of chopsticks and a temperate bonsai or a pot bound/root bound houseplant that has been in its container for at least one year. Soils and instruction will be provided. 8 p.m. at the Farmingdale College Greenhouse. Cost: $5 per small bonsai; $ 10 for large bonsai (12”+ container). Observers welcome free of charge. Blood Drive
The 3rd Annual Sarah Grace Weippert Memorial Blood Drive will take place Saturday, March 26 at the William P. 2011 All Kids Fair
Takes place on April 10 from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Melville Marriott. The fair, organized as a celebration of life for kids and their families, brings together individuals, vendors, businesses and nonprofit organizations with children from birth through high school and their families. It is part health and wellness fair and part education and activities expo. In up to 80 exhibitor spaces, many available programs and opportunities will be presented for children and merchants will sell a variety of items relevant to this population. There will be classes including those geared towards children in music, yoga, exercise, sports, martial arts and party entertainers such as magicians. Also classes designed for parents, including financial and legal planning for children, dental health, nutrition. Topics include education, health and wellness, special needs and milestones such as birthday parties, Bar/Bat Mitzvahs, Quinceañeros and Sweet 16s. The Veterans of Foreign Corp. George Benkert Jr. Post of Farmingdale is actively recruiting veterans of Afghanistan, Iraq, Desert Storm, Vietnam, Korea and WWII. Farmingdale Adult Day Care Center
A social day care program offering socialization and stimulation to persons 60 and over. The caring staff provides innovative activities for those who can no longer attend regular senior centers because of physical and/or mental impairment. It also affords respite to caregivers allowing them valued time to devote to matters of home or personal needs. This interfaith service meets on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the United Methodist Church, 407 Main St. Support groups are also held once a month on Wednesdays. Free courses and academic advice is available to economically and educationally disadvantages adults. Pretty New Thrift Shop
Donations are needed for the Pretty New Thrift Shop, 238 Main St., Farmingdale. The shop supports the work of Central Nassau Guidance and Counseling Services, Inc., a multi-service mental health and substance abuse agency located in Hicksville.
