Art Walk First Thursday

Art Walk features an international spectrum of contemporary artists. Get some artistic inspiration as you visit local art galleries. Other businesses and sites in town will be displaying artwork. Local restaurants will be exhibiting art and are offering a percentage off on meals, wine tastings and more. Live music entertainment is scheduled. Cafes and restaurants will remain open late for dessert and coffee. The evening will begin with Chase Edwards Gallery, 15 E. Main St. (802-0655) and continues at Atelier Gallery, 9 E. Main St.; Art (that matters), 55 W. Main St. (917-769-9921); The Teaching Studios of Oyster Bay, 115 Audrey Ave. (971-597-2404); and The Artist Club Gallery, 29 Berry Hill Rd. will also be open. Art will also be available for viewing at various downtown merchants, including Canterbury Ales, Jack Halyards and Wild Honey. The Oyster Bay Main Street Association office (17 Audrey Ave.) will also be displaying the works of local artists, with refreshments served. Free Nature Tours

Enjoy a guided nature walk on the trails throughout the year on the first and third Saturday of every month at the Hoffman Center Nature Preserve and Wildlife Sanctuary, 6000 Northern Blvd., Muttontown (between Route 106 and 107 – just west of Martin Viette Nursery). Meet the guide at the site entrance at 12:50 p.m. Gate locked when tour begins. No pets, no children under 10 years of age or organized groups permitted. Rain or shine. No registration required. Dahlia Club Meeting and Class

At the 7 p.m. Dahlias 101 class learn how to create a successful dahlia garden. Light, spacing, soil requirement, and how to choose dahlias most suitable to growing conditions on Long Island will be discussed. At the 8 p.m. meeting there will be a presentation on different techniques used to make dahlia cuttings. Free Veterinary Lecture

Dog and cat owners are invited to attend a free veterinary lecture on March 7 at 7:45 p.m. at the Syosset-Woodbury Community Center, 7600 Jericho Tpke., Woodbury. Oyster Flix

Anybody remember the old Lyric Movie Theater on Audrey Ave.? It’s been about 30 years since downtown Oyster Bay had a movie theater, but starting in February there will be a modified version of a theater, 17 Audrey Ave. Come gather, eat, drink, watch and discuss. To celebrate this vibrant history, The Oyster Bay Main Street Association is offering a new film series called “Oyster Flix” with an initial run of classic movies filmed in part on the north shore of LI. Movie snax’ will be available but bring your own beverages. Films (shown at 7:30 p.m.) will be immediately followed by a group discussion hosted by a speaker. $5 suggested donation /per person at the door. Call 922-6481. Senior Pops Orchestra of LI

Is holding its inter-generational concert with the students of Huntington High School at 2 p.m. Some of the program highlights will be Lord of the Rings, arranged by John Whitney; Chicago, from the musical, music by John Kander; and Marche Slave by Tchaikovsky. Landmarks Preservation Commission

The Town of Oyster Bay Landmarks Preservation Commission meeting at 7 p.m. in the Town Board Hearing Room, Town Hall East, 54 Audrey Ave. The commission was formed to recommend sites and structures within the Town of Oyster Bay which have historical, architectural or antiquarian significance. Clubhouse Cooking

Instructed by Lori Henry at the Boys & Girls Club of Oyster Bay-east Norwich, One Pine Hollow Rd., Oyster Bay. Lori previously was an assistant to a private caterer as well as a pastry chef. Classes will be held on Thursdays for six sessions through April 28 (no session April 21), from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. for members in grades 3 to 6. Materials fee $70. Participants will learn how to cook delicious meals, snacks and desserts as well as bring home food and recipes. Registration is ongoing at the clubhouse. St. Patrick’s Day Parade

The Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians – Glen Cove, invite everyone to the annual Glen Cove St Patrick’s Day Parade at 1 p.m. Beginning on Forest Ave., down School St. onto Glen St., ending up at St Patrick’s Church where there will be an after Parade Party. $20 for lunch, music raffles and a cash bar. Passion for Fashion Show

The Mill Neck Family of Organizations, along with the Mill Neck Manor Alumni Association, will host a “Passion for Fashion Show” on April 3 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the historic Mill Neck Manor House. Wearing the latest designer fashions from the renowned Brooks Brothers line, models will promenade down the manor’s enchanting staircase, and boutiques and jewelry will be available on the first floor. Guests may also partake in stylish and not-to-be missed raffles, a delicious brunch and cocktails. The event fee is $45 per person. Proceeds will benefit the Mill Neck Family of Organizations. Weekly Events

•Alcoholics Anonymous closed step meeting Sundays at 8 p.m. and open meeting at the same time. On Wednesdays at 8 p.m. there is a beginner’s meeting and a closed discussion meeting. Any one can attend the open meetings. The closed meetings are for anyone who has a desire to stop drinking. The meetings are held at Christ Church, 61 E. Main St. For information call 922-6377.

•Clutterers Anonymous, a 12-step self-help group, offers help and support to those who have clutter problems in their homes or workplace. •Meet the Doctors. Focusing on education, Premiere OBGYN will sponsor a Meet the Doctors program on the first Tuesday of each month from 7:30 to 9 p.m. at 79 Froelich Farm Blvd., Woodbury. Women who are planning a pregnancy or are already expecting can join Drs. Prince, Brooks and Flynn and have their questions answered on conception and a safe pregnancy.

•Alzheimer’s Support Group. Are you a caregiver who would like to share your experience with others? There is strength in knowing you are not alone. •Oyster Bay Quilting Group held on the fourth Tuesday of the month in the Green Room at the OB Library, 89 Main St. 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Bring a project and lunch.

•Syosset Day Chapter/Homemakers Council of NC holds its business meetings the first Wednesday of the month (September through June) at 10:15 a.m. Classes are held on subsequent Wednesdays at 10 a.m. The Homemakers meet at St. Bede’s Episcopal Church, Berry Hill Rd., Syosset. All are welcome to join.

•Bereaved Parents of the USA. This national self-help support group charters the LI NY Chapter. Meetings will be held on the second Wednesday of each month at 7:30 p.m. at Faith Lutheran Church, 231 Jackson Ave., Syosset. The group offers support, compassion, understanding and hope. No dues or fees.

•Lions Club of Oyster Bay meets on the second and fourth Thursdays of each month. The Lions Club of Oyster Bay, chartered in 1948, is a non-denominational group of men and women from all walks of life, brought together in the common interest of serving the community in the spirit of Lionism.
